Liverpool has been tipped to replace Mohamed Salah with a fellow Premier League winger when the time comes for the Egyptian to depart Anfield. Out of contract at the end of the season as things stand, the Reds will be linked with plenty of succession options.

According to pundit Tony Cascarino, Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, who has netted five goals already this season, meaning only Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer are above him in the Premier League scoring charts, would be the perfect fit.

"I would love to see Mbeumo at Liverpool," Cascarino wrote in his column for The Times. "I went to watch Brentford on Saturday because I wanted to answer the question: how much are they missing Ivan Toney? But by the end of the game, there was a much more pressing question: how long can they keep Mbeumo?

"Thomas Frank, the Brentford manager, is obviously thinking along the same lines because he said after the game that he expects Mbeumo to move to a bigger club. I expect him to move at the end of the season, and I think he could play for a Champions League team.

"If Salah is in his last year or two at Liverpool, I think Mbeumo should at the top of their list of potential replacements. There is so much to like about his game, but one of the things that stands out for me is the fact that he makes the players around him play well.

"If you think back to the “BMW” attacking trio that helped Brentford to promotion, the other two Ollie Watkins and Saïd Benrahma — both got moves to bigger clubs, but Mbeumo has managed to be just as effective with the people who replaced them, whether that’s been Toney, or Yoane Wissa, or whoever."

Liverpool.com says: Mbeumo is a really good player and he would come with the added benefit of having Premier League experience. It remains the case, though, that Salah is an elite forward. The ideal thing would be to keep the Egyptian and tie him down to a new deal to avoid the need to find the next top goalscorer among the Reds' ranks.
