Liverpool has started the 2024-25 campaign in positive fashion but plans are already being made ahead of a huge summer next year.

The Reds face losing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah on free transfers at the end of the season should they fail to agree to fresh terms at Anfield this year and in preparation for such a horrendous scenario, it appears sporting director Richard Hughes is wasting no time in finding potential replacements.

But even if the perfect scenario unfolds where Liverpool manages to keep all three of its biggest stars, additions are likely to be made nonetheless, with Arne Slot still keen to recruit a new defender and midfielder at the very least.

The latest reports, however, suggest Liverpool is on the hunt for a new left-back - but not to replace Andy Robertson. The Reds currently have Kostas Tsimikas as back-up but have been left concerned over the Greek's consistent availability, with both him and Robertson prone to picking up injuries.

With this in mind, another option is being considered and according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Reds want Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez, who has just one year left on his current deal with the Cherries. However, they will face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United for the 20-year-old.

It was revealed by Fabrizio Romano during the summer that Bournemouth value Kerkez in the region of $50million-$55million (£38m-£42m), making him more than affordable for the Reds should they wish to pursue a move.

Elsewhere, Liverpool remains keen on signing a new defensive midfielder but according to Slot, the club has moved on from trying to capture Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad after the Spaniard rejected a move to Anfield during the summer.

When asked about the transfer snub and whether he’d be tempted into trying to re-sign the 25-year-old during a press conference this week, Slot replied: “If I could have bought him then maybe I could have rotated a bit more and you guys [the media] would be a lot more happy about it!

“But there is no point talking about Zubimendi any more because he stayed with Real Sociedad and we've moved on and we are really happy with Ryan [Gravenberch].”
