Liverpool has joined the race to sign Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo next year, according to reports.

The Reds signed just one outfield player during the summer transfer window just gone, with Federico Chiesa the sole addition to Arne Slot's squad as he moved to Merseyside from Juventus.

Liverpool's recruitment team will already be in the process of compiling targets for future windows, and GIVEMESPORT reports that Mbeumo is among them. Newcastle and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old forward, whose current contract in West London is due to expire in 2026.

Mbeumo has started the new season in excellent form, scoring three times in three appearances, with only the freakish Erling Haaland having scored more goals in the Premier League than the Cameroon international.

It is claimed that Mbeumo's versatility and willingness to play in different positions is appealing to prospective suitors. Mbeumo has posted impressive numbers since Brentford were promoted to the Premier League two years ago, registering 21 goals and 14 assists in 66 appearances.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is also said to be interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah. The 28-year-old has been at Leverkusen since 2015 and was a mainstay in Xabi Alonso's side's undefeated run to the Bundesliga title last season.

German journalist Christian Falk suggested Tah could be considered as a replacement for Virgil van Dijk if the Dutch defender leaves Liverpool when his contract expires next summer. Tah himself is set to. become a free agent and will be available for nothing from July 1 next year.

Bayern Munich wanted to sign Tah during the summer transfer window but was unwilling to meet Leverkusen's $33million asking price for the German.

Falk said: “Liverpool. In the far-flung future, they will need a successor for Virgil van Dijk. Jonathan Tah could be that for Liverpool. They are also on the table at this time.

“I think the big advantage for Liverpool in the race for Tah is that the Premier League was always his big, big dream. There will always be rumours linking him with a move to Newcastle. However, if Liverpool were to knock on his door, there’s perhaps a big chance that he’ll be playing in the Premier League next season.”
