The transfer window may have closed until January, but the rumor mill is still in turbo mode as Liverpool plots its next moves.

The Reds wanted to sign a defensive midfielder during the summer window, but failed to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Other targets were tentatively linked, but Liverpool opted to keep the team largely in tact, with Ryan Gravenberch optimized early in the season in the number six role.

Instead of incomings, the attention is now on contract renewals, with three of the Reds' top players in the final year of their contracts. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk could all depart in the summer of 2025.

With that in mind, here's the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Reds to break club rule

Liverpool is said to be willing to break with its usual contract policy for players aged over 30 in order to keep Mohamed Salah at the club beyond this summer.

That's according to Football Insider, which says that Liverpool is willing to do everything it can to extend the Egyptian's stay in Merseyside.

Liverpool does not generally hand lucrative contracts to players in their 30s but Salah is seemingly, and understandably, viewed as an exception in this scenario.

The report adds that there is a willingness from both parties to come to an agreement before long, while Liverpool is concerned that the likelihood of Salah leaving will increase as time goes on.

Free agent makes decision

Meanwile, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Adrien Rabiot does not intend to move to Turkey or Saudi Arabia, as the wait to see where soccer's most valuable free agent will end up next goes on.

Rabiot has been without a club since his contract with Juventus expired at the end of the season and Liverpool is among the clubs that have been linked with a move for the midfielder.

Liverpool wanted to sign a new No.6 during the summer transfer window but ended up not doing after Martin Zubimendi turned down a switch to Anfield in order to remain at Real Sociedad.

Rabiot, aged 29, could fit the bill for Arne Slot if he decides that Liverpool needs midfield reinforcements. Free agents can be signed outside of transfer windows.

Rabiot has spent the last five years of his career at Juventus having started his senior career with Paris-Saint Germain, where he stayed for seven years
