Liverpool defender Ben Davies has fresh transfer interest from Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers this summer, according to a report.
The Reds turned to the former Preston centre-back in their time of need, although he has still not made his debut. Following injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in the 2020/21 season, Jurgen Klopp drafted Davies in as cover.
However, when Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips stepped up for Liverpool, Davies did not get a look in.
The 26-year-old consequently spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and it looks like his future lies away from Liverpool.
Indeed, Sky Sports News (10/07, 11am) now reports that Davies has fresh interest from Stoke and Blackburn.
The two clubs have noticed his Championship spell last season. Overall, though, the centre-back has made 150 second-tier appearances in his career so far, making him a solid transfer option.
And given Davies’ current predicament at Liverpool, the Reds will not stand in his way as clubs circle for him.
In fact, he has not travelled as part of the Merseyside club’s pre-season tour this summer because of the interest in him.
Blackburn and Stoke are looking to beef up their ranks and feel Davies could prove a solid acquisition.
Liverpool, fresh from their defensive injury nightmare, now have a wealth of centre-back options. Williams and Phillips are still in the squad but both could leave alongside Davies.
Further up manager Klopp’s pecking order, Joe Gomez has signed a new contract. He is battling Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip for a spot alongside Virgil van Dijk for Liverpool.
Ben Davies needs Liverpool transfer exit
Davies only played a bit-part role for Sheffield United last season. While he played 22 Championship games, he did not make the squad for 13 others.
The Englishman therefore needs a fresh start to rekindle his career – and resuming his Championship career looks like the perfect way.
Blackburn missed out on a spot in the promotion play-offs by seven points last season and will want to close that gap.
Stoke finished further back in 14th and are looking to regroup as they seek a return to the Premier League.
Davies looks as though he has no future at Liverpool and with three years left on his contract there, his exit this summer would surely be beneficial for all involved.
