Liverpool's new manager Arne Slot doesn't officially take over the job from Jürgen Klopp until June 1, but there's little doubt that discussions will already have taken place around which players he would like to bring to Anfield. Together with Richard Hughes, the club's new sporting director, the pair will try to identify and sign the right targets.

Yet the current Liverpool squad doesn't need that many adjustments this summer. Klopp guided the club to third place and Liverpool was in the title hunt right up until the middle of April. Unless a major player departs this summer, the theme of the summer will be more evolution than revolution.

One area the club does need to strengthen, though, is in defense. Joël Matip said goodbye to Liverpool this season after eight years at the club. The Cameroonian was one of Klopp's first signings at Liverpool, but the cult hero sustained a season-ending injury against Fulham in December, and Matip never got to play for Liverpool again.

Matip's contract is due to expire at the end of June and will leave Anfield as a free agent. Therefore, Liverpool needs to replace him.

One player who could potentially replace Matip is current Lille defender Leny Yoro, who is also saying a goodbye. Yoro has emerged as one of the standout defenders in Ligue 1, playing 44 games in all competitions for Paulo Fonseca's side.

Yoro, still only 18, has a bright future ahead of him, and Liverpool is said to be among the number of clubs interested in signing him. According to French newspaper L'Equipe, Yoro has bid farewell to everyone at Lille's training ground in view of a departure.

The report states that the 18-year-old has presented staff members with a shirt to say thank you, with the teenager having only a year left on his contract and unlikely to renew. Lille will likely sell this summer as it doesn't want Yoro to leave on a free in one year's time.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also thought to be interested in signing Yoro, according to Caught Offside. Yoro made 32 league appearances for Lille this season, scoring twice. According to Transfermarkt, his valuation is currently around $43m (£34m/€40m).

While PSG is very keen on Yoro, L'Equipe also reports that interest from Liverpool has 'complicated' the situation. Lille values its teenage talent at around $98m (£77m/€90m) but accepts that figure will be unrealistic with only 12 months left on his deal.

Liverpool.com says: Yoro should be on Liverpool's radar this summer. With only a year remaining on his deal, Liverpool could snap him up for relatively little, and he could be at the heart of the defense for the next decade considering his age. However, there will be a lot of competition and this could drive up the price.
