Liverpool have been told to join Manchester United in the chase for Victor Osimhen, with Jurgen Klopp potentially in the market for Sadio Mane’s replacement.

Senegal forward Mane appears set to leave Anfield this summer in search of a new challenge. His contract expires next year and he doesn’t seem to have any plans for a renewal.

Following Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, Fabrizio Romano revealed Mane’s desire to move on.

In a tweet, he wrote: “Sadio Mane has decided to leave Liverpool this summer.

“He’s ready for a new experience after many special years with Reds – it will be confirmed to the club.

“FC Bayern are strong contenders – but it’s still open and not completed as Sadio wanted to wait for the final.”

As Romano states, Bayern are at the front of the queue to sign Mane. Liverpool have other options in attack, but it would be a good idea for them to bring a new centre-forward in – especially if the Reds want to keep up with Manchester City.

One player who could emerge on their radar is Napoli ace Osimhen. The Nigerian hit 18 goals in 32 matches during 2021-22.

Man Utd big admirers of Victor Osimhen

Manchester United have been on his trail for several months, while Arsenal and AC Milan are in the frame too. Recent reports claim the Red Devils to be in ‘pole position’ for Osimhen, despite the rival interest.

But Inter Milan legend Christian Vieri thinks Liverpool should enter the race for the 23-year-old. He reckons Osimhen would suit Klopp’s energetic style of play.

“If I were Liverpool, I would go and take Osimhen from Napoli,” Vieri said (via Sport Witness). “Everyone runs in Klopp’s squad, they go a thousand miles an hour. He would be perfect.”

Osimhen’s goalscoring record suggests he could make a big impact in the Premier League. And he would likely score plenty of goals at Liverpool.

But the Reds only spend big money on players they have extensively scouted and tracked. Luis Diaz is a good example.

Liverpool haven’t looked at Osimhen previously, so they are unlikely to move for him this summer.

But it will be intriguing to see if they make any offers for other strikers once the transfer window opens.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are supposedly looking at a surprise option as an alternative to Aurelien Tchouameni.
