Liverpool vs Crystal Palace LIVE!

While it’s important not to take too much in the way of definitive conclusions from a pre-season friendly, Jurgen Klopp admitted his Liverpool side made far too many mistakes in their 4-0 loss to bitter rivals Manchester United earlier this week.

Clearly, the team are just getting back into the swing of things after a particularly gruelling campaign but the fact there is under a month to go until the Premier League starts back up again means improvements are both urgent and necessary.

Mohamed Salah was given 45 minutes against United and will surely get more minutes in the tank as Liverpool meet Crystal Palace in Singapore as the star forward bids to build a relationship with big-money star Darwin Nunez. Palace, meanwhile head into this one without a number of important players due to various injuries or down to Covid vaccination status. Full time!

15:28 , Marc Mayo

Morton goes on a nice run and combines with Salah before firing wide... and with that, the final whistle blows!

Henderson and Salah provide the goals as Liverpool win in Singapore!

15:26 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: Three minutes of added time to come...

And here is that second Liverpool goal.

15:24 , Marc Mayo

88 mins: This one is drifting calmly towards the final whistle.

Recap how Liverpool took the lead...

15:21 , Marc Mayo

85 mins: Mabaya looks to link up with Salah down the right but it is the Egyptian who overhits his pass and it rolls into touch.

15:16 , Marc Mayo

80 mins: The tempo of the game has largely stayed unchanged since that swathe of changes with Liverpool still looking most comfortable.

15:13 , Marc Mayo

77 mins: More substitutions, this time from Liverpool, as everyone but Salah and Carvalho come off for a fresh set of youngsters.

Mrozek, Mabaya, Phillips, Williams, Chambers, Bajcetic, Morton, Norris and Clark introduced.

15:08 , Marc Mayo

73 mins: Here comes the second set of Palace changes, the last set out outfield starters being replaced.

15:04 , Marc Mayo

70 mins: SAVE!

Guaita has not had the best game but that is a lovely parry down to his left after Carvalho cuts inside and shoots.

From the corner, Van Dijk stoops to head straight into the Spaniard’s chest.

15:04 , Marc Mayo

68 mins: Another ball into Nunez, this time from Alexander-Arnold right down the middle, fails to find the Uruguayan - just a sign Liverpool players are yet to fully get on their new colleague’s wavelength.

15:01 , Marc Mayo

65 mins: Here come the Palace substitutes with Ayew, Ward, Milivojevic, Andersen and Phillips coming off.

14:55 , Marc Mayo

60 mins: Salah and Nunez are looking an intriguing prospect for Liverpool after a very short space of time on the pitch together.

The Egyptian darts in from out wide and looks to roll the ball into his teammate, waiting centrally, but the ball is off-target and Palace clear.

14:53 , Marc Mayo

57 mins: A break in play with Phillips down after a tangle, seemingly an ankle knock.

It has been a mixed day for the young Irish midfielder, who has faded after a bright start while throwing in some solid tackles to win the ball and one which very much did not...

He’s up and will continue.

14:49 , Marc Mayo

53 mins: A bit of a response from Palace as a ball from the left lands for Ayew, but Robertson closes down his shot.

Rak-Sakyi slips after the corner goes short and the ball rolls into touch - the teenager not quite enjoying the best of outings today.

14:44 , Marc Mayo

50 mins: SAVE!

Turns out the fresh XI is faring better than the Palace XI with 45 minutes in the tank...

Salah does well down the right and Nunez fires in a nice effort which Guaita is equal to.

GGGOOOOAAALLLL!! Liverpool 2-0 Crystal Palace | Mohamed Salah

14:41 , Marc Mayo

46 mins: That didn’t take long!

Salah cuts in from the right to aim a trademark curling effort towards the far post, yet a touch off a defender sends it past Guaita’s weak attempt at a save!

Kick-off!

14:40 , Marc Mayo

No changes from Crystal Palace, which will make for an interesting start to the half against a fully-renewed Liverpool.

How the Reds will line up in this half

14:39 , Marc Mayo

Second-half coming up

14:37 , Marc Mayo

The Liverpool XI playing in this half are just getting prepared at the sideline after a warm-up routine.

Who will Vieira turn to off his bench?

14:32 , Marc Mayo

A series of youngsters are all the Eagles boss really has for re-energising his line-up.

The only goal so far

14:26 , Marc Mayo

Half-time!

14:22 , Marc Mayo

After just a minute of injury time, the first 45 minutes come to a close in Singapore.

Liverpool lead through a Jordan Henderson goal.

14:19 , Marc Mayo

43 mins: Clarkson off the bench to replace Oxlade-Chamberlain for the rest of the half.

14:18 , Marc Mayo

42 mins: Oxlade-Chamberlain again in the thick of it but lacking sharpness in front of goal with a strike straight at Guaita.

And it looks like the winger is injured as he takes a seat on the turf...

14:15 , Marc Mayo

39 mins: It is not been Mateta’s game and the big striker latches onto a nice Ayew clip over the top, but under pressure from Tsimikas he pile-drives a shot into the stratosphere.

That one is heading straight for the Malacca Strait.

14:13 , Marc Mayo

37 mins: CHANCE!

That should have got the crowd going!

Milner picks out a smart early ball into Oxlade-Chamberlain and Elliott is teed up with a burst down the right.

However, he slashes at a right-footed effort and pings it well wide of the near post. Snatched.

14:12 , Marc Mayo

36 mins: A bit of calm about Singapore National Stadium as the half enters its final ten minutes, punctured by a round of applause for Salah as he gets up for a warm-up.

14:07 , Marc Mayo

32 mins: We haven’t seen much of Diaz today and the Colombian gets a little something going with a move across the 18-yard line before the defence crowd him out.

Milner takes over and pulls off a lovely turn in the box before his next touch is to trip the defender who stole the ball back. Free kick.

14:05 , Marc Mayo

30 mins: Again, Palace show their threat from set plays with a corner from the left headed down and wide by Andersen at the back stick. A good leap from the Dane.

14:02 , Marc Mayo

26 mins: Palace are having a fair amount of joy down the flanks and Ayew again gets into a good position, before a cross which Adrian gathers before Phillips got onto the end of it.

Liverpool break and Elliott is inches behind a cut back across the 18-yard line.

13:57 , Marc Mayo

21 mins: CLOSE!

Tsimikas goes on a rangy run down the left and picks out Firmino with a fine ball, which wins a corner after taking a nick off a defender and going wide.

The Brazilian wants handball but no VAR here and the corner is dealt with after a foul by Liverpool.

13:54 , Marc Mayo

18 mins: A loud cheer from the crowd as Salah, sat on the Liverpool bench, is shown on the big screen.

On the pitch, the Reds are on top with Palace struggling to make use of Mateta as a target man up top.

13:50 , Marc Mayo

15 mins: Liverpool and the local fans have taken a lot of heart from that opener and they are really on top now.

Plenty of lively turns and passes flashed around the Palace half as the Eagles look a little leggy.

GGGOOOOOAAALLL!!! Liverpool 1-0 Crystal Palace | Henderson

13:47 , Marc Mayo

12 mins: Henderson for Liverpool!

The Reds recycle the cleared corner and Elliott picks out Henderson onrushing into the box, and a fine finish into the far corner beats Guaita.

13:47 , Marc Mayo

11 mins: CHANCE!

Liverpool’s first proper attack finds Firmino free in the box, he cuts it back to Jones who, under pressure from Ayew, stabs the shot towards the near-post and Guaita spills the ball wide.

The corner is cleared by Mateta.

13:44 , Marc Mayo

8 mins: A big “ooo” from the crowd as Ward fires a clearance into a Liverpool body and it’s diverted skywards, before Guaita can collect.

Down the other end, Ayew wins a free-kick of Tsimikas to earn a good chance to whip one in from the right wing.

Edouard meets the cross and, from an actually very decent position, heads downwards for Adrian to make the rather simple save.

13:41 , Marc Mayo

5 mins: A bright start for young Irishman Phillips in the middle for Palace, throwing in some hefty (and accurate) sliding tackles.

A couple of long balls over the top from Liverpool fail to come off, while Edouard has had another jog down the flank before delivering a cross which Adrian claimed comfortably.

13:37 , Marc Mayo

2 mins: An early run for Edouard down the Palace left before Milner and Konate crowd out the winger.

A reasonable intensity to the play in the early moments, but it is very humid inside the stadium so let’s see how long that lasts.

Kick-off!

Klopp issues injury update

13:13 , Marc Mayo

Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the Liverpool coverage of the match, to discuss the condition of Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker.

He said: “Diogo is a concern. With Diogo it’s a muscle again.

“Joe, no. Joe is just a precaution and not any kind of risk-taking is worth it. He is really good in the pre-season so far; he felt a little bit here and there so we said, ‘OK, then he is out.’

“Ali is not cool as well; it will not be too long but each day Ali is not involved is already too long, to be honest.”

Vieira responds to Zaha exit talk

13:08 , Marc Mayo

Patrick Vieira has dismissed talk of Wilfried Zaha leaving Crystal Palace this summer.

The 29-year-old is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park, with no agreement yet reached over a new deal.

“It’s just a report I think,” Vieira said. “We are in a period where there is a lot of speculation regarding players.

“What is really important for me and the football club is that Wilfried Zaha came back on time and he is working well to have a good season.”

Klopp nominated for Liverpool gong

12:43 , Marc Mayo

Jurgen Klopp has been nominated for the Freedom of the City of Liverpool for his achievements with the club.

“I have to be honest, when I first heard this news I had to take a minute to take it in,” said Klopp.

“As you can imagine, I get a lot of different types of news in my job but this was definitely a ‘wow’ moment.

“The main reason for this was what Liverpool, the city and its wonderful people mean to me and my family. The welcome that we have been given has been unbelievable from the word go, so to get this kind of recognition is incredible. It is also very humbling.”

Crystal Palace wins: 14

Draws: 11

Liverpool wins: 35

Evening Standard prediction

12:01 , Marc Mayo

Palace barely have a team to field, so this game should be interesting.

Liverpool, meanwhile, we want to shake off a thumping from Manchester United as soon as possible - with Jurgen Klopp bemoaning mistakes - so the squad will be gunning for a victory.

Liverpool to win 4-1.

11:52 , Marc Mayo

Crystal Palace have just 10 senior players available for today’s game due to fitness issues and some players failing to "meet the entry requirements for Singapore or Australia when travel arrangements were made."

Marc Guehi, Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise are among those who have not travelled with Patrick Vieira’s squad, along with the likes of Christian Benteke, Will Hughes and Cheikhou Kouyate.

Early team news

11:46 , Marc Mayo

Liverpool came through Tuesday’s 4-0 loss to Manchester United without any further fitness issues.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Nunez were substitutes during the game so could start in Singapore. Diogo Jota is injured.
