The Boxing Day fixture schedule in the Premier League has been hit by Covid-19, with Wolves vs Watford and Liverpool vs Leeds both postponed.

Leeds and Watford both lobbied the Premier League Board to postpone their games, which were due to take place at lunchtime on Sunday, and those requests have now been accepted.

The Premier League explained that Leeds would not be able to play this weekend due to the number of players with Covid-19, injuries and illness.

The club’s Thorp Arch training ground has also been closed after consultation with the UK Health Security Agency and the Premier League.

Watford are dealing with their own Covid-19 outbreak and have not played since December 10.

The Premier League explained that the Hornets have insufficient players to field a team for their trip to Wolves but, due to people coming out of isolation, it is fully expected they will be able to play their next fixture against West Ham on December 28.

Watford’s postponement is not good news for Arsenal, who are due to play Wolves on December 28.

That match is under 48 hours after their Boxing Day trip to Norwich, but Wolves will go into it having last played on December 19.

Leicester have a similar issue as they face Manchester City on Boxing Day, before travelling to a fresh Liverpool two days later.

Everton’s request to have their Boxing Day fixture against Burnley postponed has been rejected by the Premier League.
