Alisson appeared to take a swipe at Nottingham Forest's style of play in his interview after Liverpool succumbed to its first defeat of the season.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was statuesque as Callum Hudson-Odoi's curled effort found its way into the bottom corner of the Reds' goal in the second half.

Liverpool had more than 20 minutes to find a response but could not muster one and now sit three points behind leaders Manchester City after the champions maintained their 100 per cent record, coming from behind to beat Brentford.

For the first time since the first half of Liverpool's win over Ipswich on the opening day of the season, the Reds struggled to stamp their authority on the game, with several stars delivering under-par displays.

Alisson praised the visitors for their performance, but also appeared to criticised them for implementing what he perceived to be a defensive style of play.

“It was a shame, losing points at home is not good at all but the opponent today only wanted to defend and play for the long ball,” he said.

“We gave them that too easily when they scored, it was poor defensively from us We couldn’t create much, we had a lack of quality today, we needed more energy. It is three points we have lost today unnecessarily.

“All the opportunities we had were not clear enough and they defended great, they threw themselves in front of the ball.”
