Liverpool's Champions League fixtures compared to Arsenal, Man City and Real Madrid
Liverpool return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when it takes on AC Milan at San Siro.
Last season, the Reds spent the European part of their campaign in the Europa League, having finished fifth during the 2022/23 campaign. However, in Jurgen Klopp's final season at Anfield, it finished third, booking its spot in the Champions League this term, which is using a new format.
Gone are the group stages, with the new league phase having replaced the old format. Teams will now play eight games, four home and four away, against individual sides. Following Liverpool's trip to San Siro they will return to European action against more Italian opposition in the form of Bologna at Anfield on October 2, before hitting the road again on October 23 when they take on RB Leipzig.

On November 5, Liverpool welcome former Reds star Xabi Alonso and his Bayer Leverkusen side to Anfield. And, after that, its next European clash will see them face Kylian Mbappe's Real Madrid at Anfield on November 27.
They then conclude its Champions League fixtures with games against Girona, Lille and PSV on December 10, January 21 and January 29th respectively. But just who are the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Real Madrid set to take on in the new league phase?
Man City take on Inter Milan in its first league phase match at the Etihad on Wednesday night. Its second game will see them take on Slovan Bratislava on October 1, before welcoming Sparta Praha over three weeks later to the Etihad. They then travel to Lisbon to take on Sporting in Portugal on November 5. And its next game after that will pit them against Slot's former side Feyenoord on November 26.
Its final league phase game of 2024 will see them travel to Turin to play Juventus, before concluding after the turn of the year with games against Paris Saint-Germain and Club Brugge.
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal will play Atalanta on Thursday night this week in its Champions League opener, before welcoming PSG to the Emirates in its first home game on October 1. After that, they play Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter, Sporting and Monaco. Its final two games after the turn of the year will see them play Dinamo Zagreb and Girona.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid open its title defence with a clash against Stuttgart on Tuesday night at the Bernabeu. They will then face Lille, Dortmund, Milan, Liverpool, Atalanta, RB Salzburg and Brest.

Liverpool.com says: "It will be interesting to see just how the league phase impacts how teams play against one another, simply because there won't be a return fixture like there usually was during the group stages. With that in mind, we might see teams come out and be more aggressive in its opening games of the new format to the Champions League."
