Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones showed his appreciation for the "belief" Jurgen Klopp and his staff have shown in him after he scored his first Premier League goal.

The 19-year-old on Saturday signed what Standard Sport believes to be a four-year contract extension, and immediately validated the club's decision with a late goal in Sunday's 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

The midfielder - who signed for Liverpool at under-nine level - is expected to have a larger role next season with Adam Lallana set to leave.

And after scoring an impressive three goals in nine games for Liverpool this season, Klopp's belief certainly appears to be justified.

Of his first Premier League goal, Jones told Sky Sports: "It felt great, but more importantly that the boys came away with the three points after everyone had said that we had a difficult week.

"I thought the boys dug deep and I'm just grateful to come away with my first Premier League goal."

It's been quite the week for the youngster, who believes his cameo in what was a tight game shows just the extent of Klopp's trust.

"Yeah, it's been a big week," he added. "I signed again, I scored my first Premier League goal, but I have to give credit and a thank you to the manager and his staff for the belief they've shown in me and the opportunities they've given me all season.

"It was a difficult game against Villa, who are in a difficult position at the minute. It was only 1-0 and the game can go either way.

"He [Klopp] has put me on and I think I repaid him in a good way... hopefully!"

While many dream of scoring their first Premier League goal in front of a packed home ground, Jones was greeted by a fan-less stadium. The youngster insists "a goal's a goal", however.

"I don't mind, a goal's a goal," he added. "They all count but I'm just happy the boys came away with the three points and I hope the fans were buzzing to see a local lad score his first Premier League goal - and I hope I can give more in the future."
