Liverpool came up with the perfect response following last weekend’s surprise defeat to Nottingham Forest as they brushed aside Bournemouth at Anfield.

A Luis Diaz double and a superb strike from Darwin Nunez made sure the Reds didn’t make the same mistake again as they capped off fine week following their Champions League win over AC Milan.

Arne Slot’s side moves to the top of the Premier League table, although they know it will only be temporary, with a huge game still to come on Sunday.

There isn’t much time for Liverpool to rest as the games come thick and fast before the next international break. The Reds are back in action on Wednesday as they begin the defense of the Carabao Cup against West Ham at Anfield.

Their next Premier League outing sees them travel to Wolves next weekend, before Bologna pay a visit to Anfield in the Champions League. The Reds then head to Crystal Palace before Chelsea head to Merseyside after the international break.

Liverpool’s next five fixtures:

West Ham (H), Carabao Cup, September 25

Wolves (A), Premier League, September 28

Bologna (H), Champions League, October 2

Crystal Palace (A), Premier League, October 5

Chelsea (H), Premier League, October 20

It’s not just the Reds that Liverpool fans will be keeping a close eye on though, especially with a huge game in wait on Sunday. Manchester City hosts Arsenal tomorrow as last season’s top two go head to head for the first time.

Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth guarantees that Slot’s side will be finishing above one of their title rivals once the weekend is over, and they’ll be hoping for some more favors from their rivals over the next few weeks.

Following tomorrow’s game at the Etihad, City has a tricky-looking trip to Newcastle next weekend, while also facing Fulham and Wolves either side of the international break. Arsenal, meanwhile, has the advantage of four straight home games across all competitions, although they will have to contend with a tough Champions League encounter with Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester City’s next five fixtures (after Arsenal):

Watford (H), Carabao Cup, September 24

Newcastle (A), Premier League, September 28

Slovan Bratislava (A), Champions League, October 1

Fulham (H), Premier League, October 5

Wolves (A), Premier League, October 20

Arsenal’s next five fixtures (after Man City):

Bolton (H), Carabao Cup, September 25

Leicester City (H), Premier League, September 28

PSG (H), Champions League, October 1

Southampton (H), Premier League, October 5

Bournemouth (A), Premier League, October 19
