Liverpool's transfer situation becomes clear after midfield target agrees move
Liverpool transfer target Teun Koopmeiners has agreed to swap Atalanta for Juventus.
The Dutch midfielder, who was part of the Atalanta side who defeated for Reds star Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen to claim Europa League glory last season, has agreed to join the Old Lady for a fee that could rise to $65m (£49.7m/€59m).
Liverpool had been linked with the Dutchman, but opted to put their midfield summer signing efforts into chasing Martin Zubimendi, a player they viewed as their long-term answer to the number six position they have long been looking to fill. However, the Spanish midfielder opted to turn down the Reds, choosing to remain in the Basque Country with Real Sociedad, the side he has spend his entire professional career with.

While Liverpool believed they had a strong chance of landing Zubimendi, they were ultimately unable to convince him to move to Anfield, which sent the Reds back to the drawing board. However, they certainly won't be signing Koopmeiners, who has agreed to join Juventus.
Taking to social media, Juventus posted a video on X of Koopmeiners arriving at their training facilities for his medical. "Look who's here, fans!" they wrote on the social media platform, with Koopmeiners looking thrilled his future had finally been resolved.
Should Liverpool have signed Teun Koopmeiners this summer? Let us know in the comments section below.
But had Koopmeiners have ended up at Liverpool this summer, it would have seen him reunited with his former boss Arne Slot, who coached the 26-year-old at AZ Alkmaar. In fact, Koopmeiners was also Slot's captain before the latter opted to take up the Feyenoord job in 2021 after just a year with Alkmaar.
Koopmeiners spent four full seasons with AZ in the Eredivisie before making the move to Serie A to sign for Atalanta in 2021, where he became a mainstay in Gian Piero Gasparini's team. Known as more of a defensive midfielder, Koopmeiners also has an eye for goal too, having scored 10 goals in all competitions during the 2022/23 season, and 15 in all competitions last term.
Liverpool has finally made a signing though in the form of Giorgi Mamardashvili and are close to landing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa too.
Liverpool.com says: "If anyone knows about what Teun Koopmeiners can do, it's Arne Slot, which suggests maybe Liverpool weren't heavily interested in the Dutch international. As things stand, they look set to go move with Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister serving as their midfield pivot, with Dominik Szoboszlai operating further forward."
