Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has broken the silence on his future, after being heavily linked with a move to Manchester City.

The Croatia international has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge. Now, a departure is looking increasingly likely.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to lose several players this summer as he looks to cut down his oversized squad.

For example, Edouard Mendy, Mason Mount and Kalidou Koulibaly are all expected to leave Chelsea.

Kovacic is now expected to follow the trio out the exit door, with Man City being his most likely destination, as it stands.

Indeed, as previously reported by Football365, Pep Guardiola has made signing the midfielder one of his priorities, with Kovacic ‘close’ to agreeing on personal terms with the Cityzens.

The 29-year-old could prove to be a valuable signing for Man City, if the deal goes through as expected.

Since signing for Chelsea from Real Madrid back in 2019, Kovacic has made 221 appearances across all competitions. In the process, he has scored six goals and made 15 assists.

In an unbelievably successful career, the 29-year-old has won 13 major trophies during his time with Madrid and Chelsea, including four Champions Leagues.

Also, despite struggling for consistent minutes with the Blues this season, Kovacic is still argaubly one of the most technically gifted midfielders in the Premier League.

Moreover, with Man City captain Ilkay Gundogan being linked with a departure from the Etihad, Kovacic could prove to be an ideal replacement for him.

Now, in an interview with Croatian magazine Nacional, Kovacic has heaped praise on Man City.

“I have one more year with Chelsea, this season was very bad. Everything is going towards the fact that after 5 good years, I will change, but in football, anything can happen. Right now, I’m focused on Croatia and the Nations League,” Kovacic said.

“Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say. The summer is long, we’ll see what happens.

“Chelsea is phenomenal for me. I love the city and the fans, they love me, I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. We’ll see what happens,” he added.

But, Chelsea won’t let Kovacic go cheaply. It is believed the London club will demand a fee between £30m and £40m for his services.

However, money isn’t really a problem for Man City, so everything is pointing towards the midfielder making the switch to the Etihad at the moment.
