Loeb says win not vital in New Zealand

World Rally Championship leader Sebastien Loeb has admitted victory is not vital for him on this week's Rally New Zealand.

The Frenchman starts the Auckland-based event 30 points ahead of his nearest rival, team-mate Mikko Hirvonen.

While Loeb has won New Zealand twice before, he admitted the changeable weather and specifics roads ensured it was not the easiest event in the championship.

"The roads here are quite demanding," he said, "and it is a complicated rally. It's difficult to know what is the weather going to be doing - even when the sun is shining it is still raining here! The main thing is to find the good feeling with the car, that's very important on this rally.

"If we get that, then let's see what can happen. It's not imperative for me to win this rally, but you always want to fight for the win when you can."

Loeb completed this morning's qualifying stage in fourth place and when asked what starting position he would be taking for tomorrow morning's opening loop, he replied: "I don't know. I will wait for the Ford guys to make their decisions - then I'll go in and take the best place!"

He then chose third on the road.
