Arsenal have been told they "need" to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid in the January transfer window to help them win the Premier League title.

The Gunners have long been in the market for forward players, signing Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea on deadline day in the summer. However, that move has not borne fruit, with Sterling failing to make an impact in north London thus far.

He secured his first assist in the Premier League last weekend when providing the ball for Ethan Nwaneri to score his first top-flight goal. He has only managed 130 minutes of Premier League action in 12 games as an Arsenal player.

The Gunners decided against signing an out-and-out striker and if their transfer plans do not change with a new sporting director coming in, former player Emmanuel Petit believes he knows the perfect signing for Arsenal.

Speaking to PrimeCasino, Petit said: "Arsenal need to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid as he’s so underrated and gets overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.

"He reminds me a bit of Sylvain Wiltord when I was at Arsenal. I really think he would be a star at the Emirates and be an amazing player who can play across all three positions across the front line.

"I know he was asked about [Kylian] Mbappe and Vinicius Jr the other day and he responded: 'I am Rodrygo, look at what I did last season.' This guy is so underrated and perhaps he feels like is being overshadowed at Real Madrid?

"In any case, he could be an absolute superstar for Arsenal and I rate him very much. He scores goals, gives assists and gives great energy on the pitch and he could be the man to help them challenge this season."

The January transfer window opens in little more than a month's time with Arsenal sure to be linked with a number of different signings.
