'Look who's back': Ex-Hull KR man Tom Opacic's welcome from Australian club is warm
Former Hull Kingston Rovers player Tom Opacic has been training with the Redcliffe Dolphins - and has received a warm welcome from the club.
The Dolphins Instagram account had a picture of the former Robins centre in action in training with the Australian club, accompanied by the words "look who's back". It represents a return to his boyhood club after leaving Hull KR at the end of the 2024 campaign - and at the age of 30 he still potentially has plenty more to give.
The Redcliffe-born man spent two seasons with Rovers but lost his regular place in the matchday squad in the final third of last season.

The Australian player left Hull KR despite having previously signed a contract extension, after a positive 2023 campaign with the Robins, that had tied him to the club until the end of 2025. It was announced in late August 2024 though that he would be leaving Craven Park. Opacic's departure from the club opened up a quota spot and Rhyse Martin, at Leeds Rhinos at the time, was later confirmed as a player at Hull KR from the 2025 season.
Opacic had been in the best form of his career in the NRL when Rovers signed him ahead of the 2023 season - in which he was successful - and he could now have a shot at reviving his career back in Australia. Opacic had played for Redcliffe Dolphins at junior level before going on to play for Brisbane Broncos in NRL then moving on to North Queensland Cowboys and Parramatta Eels - then Rovers.
