The ex-wife convicted of conspiring to murder her husband, former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, has officially asked a judge to throw out her guilty plea, according to The Associated Press.

Sherra Wright filed a petition for relief of conviction or sentence on Tuesday after she pled guilty to facilitation of murder in the death of Wright in 2010. Sherra, per the report, claims her conviction was “unlawfully induced” and entered without her completely understanding the consequences of that plea. Her confession, she said, was the result of ineffective counsel.

Sherra and another man, Billy Ray Turner, were charged in Wright’s death in 2017. After she pled guilty, per the report, she said that she did so for the sake of her children.

A hearing has been set for July 6.

Trial date set in Lorenzen Wright’s death

A Tennessee judge finally set a trial date for Turner’s case last week.

Turner was initially set to have his trial in October, however it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is now set to start on Jan. 31, 2022.

Wright was found dead with multiple bullet wounds in a Memphis area field in 2010, 10 days after he was reported missing. He was 34.

Sherra was sentenced to 30 years in prison after her guilty plea. Turner was sentenced to 16 years in prison on a separate gun charge after he was arrested for Wright’s murder, and he pled guilty to possessing a weapon as a convicted felon.

Turner has been in jail ever since, but has denied the murder charges.

Lorenzen Wright, a Memphis native, played in the NBA from 1996-2009. He was selected No. 7 overall by the Los Angeles Clippers and spent time with the Hawks, Grizzlies, Kings and Cavaliers while averaging eight points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
