Report: Rams quarterback Jared Goff broke his thumb against Seahawks
The Los Angeles Rams may be without quarterback Jared Goff next week with a playoff spot on the line.
Goff broke and dislocated his thumb during L.A.’s rough 20-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Michael Silver. His status for the Rams’ regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals is unclear.

Goff smacked his thumb off of Seattle defensive end Benson Mayowa’s helmet in the second half on Sunday at CenturyLink Field, and he was seen later in the game popping it back into place. He finished the game, and went 24-of-43 for 234 yards with an interception.
Goff is expected to undergo further testing when the team arrives in Los Angeles, though the team doesn’t know whether he can play next week. The Rams need to beat the Cardinals to ensure they reach the postseason, otherwise the Rams will need the Green Bay Packers to beat the Chicago Bears.
If Goff can’t go — Rapoport and Silver reported that it’s unlikely Goff will be ready in time — the Rams will likely turn to backup John Wolford, who has yet to play in an NFL game. The former Wake Forest star’s only professional experience came with the AAF’s Arizona Hotshots, where he led the team briefly in 2019 before the league was shut down.
“[My thumb is] OK right now. It’s not terrible,” Goff said, via the Rams’ Stu Jackson. “We’ll see tomorrow. We’ll evaluate tomorrow.”
