Paul Pogba has proved once again that his constant words and lack of action meant he would never be a Manchester United legend, Louis Saha has said.

The Frenchman is leaving Old Trafford this summer following the expiry of his contract. He is likely to return to Juventus, where his form convinced United to spend £89million to re-sign him in 2016.

And while Pogba showed flashes of his top talent during his six-year stay, he never maintained that level consistently.

As such, he is leaving Man Utd this summer after voicing his frustration at the club throughout last season. Pogba claimed that the 2021/22 campaign was “dead” for the Red Devils. He added that he did not know his role, unlike his security with the France team.

And in the upcoming ‘The Pogmentary’ documentary, the 28-year-old slammed United’s contract extension offer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former United striker Saha slammed Pogba’s attitude, given his lack of achievement at Old Trafford. He insisted that the “legends” at the club proved their worth on the pitch rather than talking off it.

“I think it’s not necessary, it doesn’t help his cause,” Saha said in his assessment of Pogba’s latest comments.

“All those quotes are unnecessary. When I look at all the legends they do their talking on the field. You’re doing a documentary, good for you, do it, if it provides the results you want, fine – I won’t judge that.

“But in terms of the respect for the team and [what the] player deserves, to provide results on the field, he hasn’t done that.

“I don’t think he will be happy with his era at Manchester United. It benefits the documentary but doesn’t benefit him or the club.”

Pogba needed to do more at Man Utd

Pogba’s documentary also features his late agent Mino Raiola. Raiola had insisted that his client deserved better than Man Utd‘s more than £290,000 per week contract extension offer.

But Saha insisted that Pogba needed to do better to deserve a higher salary.

“When you have liberties to talk or you deserve more – yes, you deserve more if you actually had the performances where no one can criticise you,” the pundit said.

“You have to perform and I don’t think he has. I like him, admire every piece of him. When you look at the results, it’s frustrating for the club and the player.”

Man Utd need to change approach

Pogba’s struggles form part of United’s somewhat failed transfer policy since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013.

A host of other players alongside Pogba have joined for big fees but failed to live up to expectations.

Angel di Maria is another, while Romelu Lukaku also struggled to truly make his mark at United..

And that is why new manager Erik ten Hag and football director Erik ten Hag must change their approach as they look to enter a new chapter and rebuild.
