Everton have reportedly had a bid rejected for Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker as Frank Lampard looks to further bolster his squad before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Dendoncker moved to Molineux from Anderlecht in 2018 and was a regular before the partnership of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho saw him start just 22 league games last season.

But with the Qatar World Cup coming at the end of the year , the 27-year-old wants as much football as possible to keep his place in Roberto Martinez’s Belgium squad.

And that, according to The Athletic, is where Everton come in – with an £8million offer already rejected.

Lampard’s current midfield options include new boy Amadou Onana, Tom Davies, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure. Alex Iwobi has also started the season more centrally but is more used to playing out wide.

The Toffees have allowed Dele Alli and Jean-Philippe Gbamin to move on. However, Lampard is said to be unconvinced by both Doucoure and Allan and is keen to add different options.

Talk continues of a potential return for Idrissa Gana Gueye. But for now it appears Everton are focusing their attention on Dendoncker.

An improved offer is expected as the clock ticks down to Thursday’s deadline. However, it’s unclear what Wolves are willing to accept for the player who has one year left on his contract.

Dendoncker contract running down

Dendoncker has scored 12 goals in 159 games for Wolves since moving to Molineux. However, his appearances have dropped every season since his arrival and Bruno Lage may decide it’s time to sell.

Tha fact the player only has year left on his contract will also play into Wolves’ thinking. Indeed, Dendoncker could walk away for nothing of the club decide against activating his further one-year option.

As for Everton and Lampard, the Toffees boss is seemingly desperate to had more options to his squad to ease fears over another relegation battle this term.
