Lucas Bergvall names 'unbelievable' Tottenham trio vs Southampton as he realises childhood dream

Lucas Bergvall has hailed Tottenham trio Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski as "unbelievable players" following their starring roles in the 5-0 win over Southampton. Maddison put Spurs on their way to victory with the opening goal after 37 seconds, with Son and Kulusevski then finding the net themselves as the visitors raced into a 3-0 lead after only 14 minutes.

Pape Matar Sarr gave Spurs a four-goal cushion 11 minutes later, before Maddison grabbed his second of the contest on the stoke of half-time. It proved to be an excellent day for Ange Postecoglou's side as they bounced back in style following a tough run of late.

Bergvall was handed his first Tottenham start in the game at St Mary's and he duly caught the eye with a mature display at the base of Spurs' midfield. Speaking to SPURSPLAY after the game, the Swede opened up on his first Tottenham start and hailed his teammates for the part they played in the win.

"It felt really good," admitted the teenager. "It has been a dream since I was a young kid to start in the Premier League, so I'm really grateful for that. The team helped me and Djed [Spence] today, our first start and I think we all did amazing."

He added: “It’s a big difference for me, coming from the Swedish league. It’s a big difference when you are 18 years old. I am learning every day.

“Trying to train to get better, to get better confidence and get better physically. Learning from the best. You saw Sonny, Madders, Deki today. Unbelievable players.”

Son added to his goal with two assists in the match as he teed up Sarr's strike and Maddison's second of the evening. He also put in the cross from the left that fell kindly to Kulusevski to make it three.

Son certainly needed his goal contributions after struggling in the final third of late. It may have just come at the perfect time as well with Manchester United to come in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening before Sunday's Premier League encounter against Liverpool.

Playing his part for Tottenham over the course of the year, Son is in the mix to win the Tottenham Hotspur Fans' Footballer of the Year award for 2024. The Spurs captain, who won the award in 2023, joins Brennan Johnson, Micky van de Ven and Kulusevski on the four-man shortlist to win the top prize.

As ever, Spurs fans will determine the winner and there is just one week left to vote for your Tottenham Fans' Footballer of the Year for 2024. You can cast your vote by using the widget below.
