Luis Diaz has set his sights on winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot this season after a superb start to the season with Liverpool.

The winger has five goals from as many appearances so far, helping Liverpool up to second – just a point behind Manchester City at this early stage. He’ll be aiming to add to his tally when the Reds travel to Wolves tomorrow.

Diaz is already only three goals off matching his league tally from last season, when he hit eight goals in 37 appearances. The Colombia international is second in the league’s top scorers list at the moment, and there are no prizes for guessing who is currently first.

City’s Erling Haaland has set the pace once again, with the Norwegian averaging two goals a game so far with 10 goals already from his five games. Having won the Golden Boot in his each of the last two seasons, the 24-year-old is the favorite to repeat the feat in 2024/25.

Diaz though isn’t giving up the fight as he aims to continue his rich vein of form with Liverpool.

“Why not? I hope I can be one of the Premier League's top scorers,” he told Sky Sports. “Now, it's about continuing this good start, keeping my feet on the ground, staying calm and enjoying it."

If Diaz can maintain the sort of form he has shown so far, he could help the Reds to another title challenge this season. Although many have written off Liverpool’s title chances, including Gary Neville, Diaz is adamant his side will be in the conversation for every trophy they’re involved with this season.

"Yes, yes," Diaz said when asked if Liverpool can mount a title challenge. "We have to try, and we will try, to win every competition we are competing in this year.

"That is what we are working for, that is what the coach wants and what we want, because last year we didn't manage it. This year, we have to try to compete for everything."

Liverpool.com says: It’s going to take an almighty effort if Diaz is to beat Haaland to the Golden Boot. Already, the Manchester City man looks well on his way to the prize.

But it is a great sign that Diaz is setting himself that kind of target, and speaks of the supreme confidence he has at the moment. He looks to have improved on his finishing massively after last season, and hopefully he maintains his form for the remainder of the campaign now.
