Celtic midfielder Luke McCowan is targetting more cup finals and a spot in the first team as he continues to live his Hoops dream.

The former Dundee man joined Brendan Rodgers’ side in the summer and is living the dream as the boyhood Celtic is enjoying a decent start to life at Celtic Park. With international football now on hiatus until March, it’s all about all things domestic football and European competitions for the Hoops, and a blockbuster Old Firm Premier Sports Cup Final in December.

McCowan won’t be able to play in that Hampden finale as he’s cup-tied in the competition from earlier in the season with Dundee but is raring to go for the hectic schedule his side are about to be in the midst of. However, the 26-year-old reckons there will be more cup finals for him to feature in as part of this Celtic side.

He told Sky Sports News: “I mean, I don't need to speak for this team. Obviously I'm just kind of new to it, but it won’t be any different than before. You’re used to the winter breaks that you get, not get out of this year, but, the boys will be ready come Saturday and it's a long schedule to come but we've got a big enough squad and a good enough squad to go and make a right dent.

“It sets the flame I think,” he says when asked how much he’s enjoying his start to life in this high-flying Celtic side. “You want to be a part of this team, you want to be playing for this club. I've been working as hard as I can to then take my chance when it comes and help the team out when I can.

On their upcoming clash with Hearts on Saturday night, he adds: “I can't wait! It's a bit weird playing on a Saturday night, but it's just a midweek game and you treat it as the quarter-to-eight kick-off, and it'll be a loud one for sure at Tynecastle.

“Everybody will always tell you it's one game at a time, which of course it is, but it's just a thing you've got to kind of think about. And obviously, sad for me, I'll not even be able to make the cup final, I'll just be watching it and cheering the boys on, but I'm sure there'll be others to come and I'll be involved in them.”
