Luton boss Rob Edwards didn’t think there was much between the sides at Ewood Park but was left ruing defensive “errors”.

Edwards was frustrated to concede twice in quick succession as Amario Cozier-Duberry and Owen Beck both struck in a ruthless eight-minute spell before the break.

“There was not loads in the game apart from two errors for the goals,” he told the club channels. “We are here again, a few weeks ago at Norwich we were saying the same thing.

“We have come here and – with my eyes and looking at the stats – there is nothing really in the game.

“One ball down the side, we don’t deal with the throw-in, we have bodies around it, missed tackles.

“The second one, again we have got numbers there to be able to deal with the ball down the side and don’t match the run.

“Two in quick succession, pretty inexplicable because it is obviously not what we are working, it is not what we want and it is costing us.”

The Hatters chief was also disappointed to go down to 10 men in the second half when Liam Walsh saw red for a foul on Yuki Ohashi, although he insists there wasn’t any malice in the tackle.

“Clearly, it has not helped us today,” he added. “He plays with his heart on his sleeve and has made a mistake. He has not gone to injure the lad but he has mistimed the challenge.

“Obviously, that is frustrating because people will look at it and say that is the second time. He is not a nasty player but he has not helped us today.

“We will have a look at it and I know he will, he is an honest kid. It is such a shame because we brought him on to help us make a difference.

“We were on top in the game and with his quality, I thought he could really help us find some openings.”

The result leaves Edwards’ side 19th in the Championship table and five points above the drop zone heading into the busy festive period.

“With 30 minutes gone, we were relatively happy,” Edwards reflected. “The crowd was quiet, they hadn’t really created anything.

“They had a bit more of the ball but that is not a problem. But 2-0 at half time, we have to see a reaction.

“We have to up the intensity and we saw that, we took the ball more and had the ascendency throughout the second half – even with the red card.

“A good performance without getting the goal. If we got that one goal, we could have got back in it and made something of it, but they defended the box better than we did.”
