Magpies downed by late Exmouth strike

WIMBORNE Town fell to a late defeat away in Devon on Tuesday evening, losing 1-0 to newly promoted Exmouth Town.

An 86th minute strike from substitute Dean Billingsley proved the difference, spelling defeat for the Magpies in their second game of the campaign.

Boss James Stokoe named an unchanged XI from the side that defeated Cinderford 3-1 on the opening day.

Magpies came closest to opening scores after 17 minutes when Harry Morgan nodded a Dan Bartlett cross onto the bar, before shortly afterwards Bartlett tried his luck from range, forcing a strong save from the hosts’ goalkeeper Christopher Wright.

Chances were few and far between for both sides throughout the 90 minutes.

In the end it would be the home side who would snatch all three points late on.

Striker Billingsley was only introduced three minutes prior to his winning strike, with the sub well placed to steer home after a deflection fell kindly to him.

Magpies: Parker-Trott, Hanger, Wells, Morrison, Rose, Kellaway, Bartlett, Morgan, Beale (Baker, 57), Burbidge (Hoey, 80), Roberts (Bedford, 68)

Unused subs: Satterley, Lander
