Major Liverpool target would ‘love to change their fortunes’ as he’s keen on club who ‘need him’
Liverpool’s current troubles are apparently not a concern for Jude Bellingham, as he has been “keeping a very close eye” on them and would “love to change their fortunes”.
That the Reds have not been anywhere close to the dominant side they have been for the past few seasons this term is an understatement. They won the league three seasons and came within a point of doing so again last term.
However, they currently sit in eighth place, nowhere near the title race and not particularly close to the top four.
It seems change is needed for the club to be successful again. Keeping the same squad next season would likely result in another poor run.
The big addition it seems Jurgen Klopp’s side are holding out for is Borussia Dortmund midfielder Bellingham. He’s a major target for other big sides such as Chelsea and Real Madrid, and it’s little wonder why that is.
He’s established himself as one of the best midfielders in world football at just 19 years of age. He’s scored four times and provided four assists in 21 Bundesliga games this season, while Dortmund are top of the table for now.
He’s also scored four goals and assisted one in six Champions League games this season.
In the position Liverpool are in, you’d be forgiven for thinking Bellingham wouldn’t want to join. He’s bossing the Champions League, while the Reds might not even secure Europa League football next season at this rate.
However, he apparently sees the challenge of turning Liverpool’s fortunes around as a welcome one, as per journalist Christian Falk.
“I heard that Jude Bellingham is keeping a very close eye on what Liverpool are doing at the moment. I’ve been told nobody should think he’s a player that wouldn’t go to Liverpool because of the difficult situation they’re in,” he told Caught Offside.
“It’s the other way around – he’s actually the kind of guy who would love to go to a club where he can change their fortunes.
“At Liverpool, he sees that the club is in need of him and that he can build something there, so that’s why the side remains an interesting option for him.”
Falk also explained while Bellingham is currently performing well in the Champions League, he’d be willing to forego playing in it for a period.
“As you see in the Premier League, they’re not massively far away from the Champions League places but it’s important to note that Champions League qualification isn’t a deal-breaker for Bellingham. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt Liverpool’s chances!” he added.
It does seem surprising that a player of Bellingham’s quality would be fine not playing in the biggest club tournament in the world. However, he’ll have ample opportunities to play in it during his career.
There’s likely a thought in his mind that at some point, even if it’s not next season, Liverpool will be able to offer him that.
