The Toronto Raptors, generally good at avoiding off-court drama, might be facing a “LaVar Ball” type of problem.

On Friday, Eric Flynn, father of Raptors guard Malachi Flynn, took to Facebook to air his disapproval of head coach Nick Nurse’s treatment of his son.

Flynn went as far as insinuating that Nurse’s supposed dissatisfaction with the second-year player goes beyond his performances on the court.

The 23-year-old has struggled to make a lasting impression on his head coach, appearing in limited minutes off the bench. In 27 games this season, Flynn has averaged 2.8 points, one rebound and 0.9 assists per game, while shooting 34.9 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from three-point range.

Nurse has also opted to trust a tight rotation of no more than seven or eight players of late, to the annoyance of many fans, like Eric Flynn, who would like to see the bench get more playing time.

It’s hard to blame Flynn for supporting and sticking up for his child, as any parent would do, but we rarely see it manifested publicly like this.

Flynn has not been shy to voice his opinions since his son was drafted by Toronto with the 29th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, often appearing in various Raptors fan groups on Facebook, sharing his thoughts about the team and interacting with fans in comments sections.
