Malmo boss rages 'obviously I'm stupid' as Rangers taunt comes back to haunt him
Malmo boss Henrik Rydstrom was made to eat his words after Rangers ended their Swedish European hoodoo.
The Swedes boasted an unbeaten record against Gers having twice knocked them out of the Champions League in recent years. And the club's social media team were quick to remind their Europa League rivals of that fact in the build-up to last night's opener. Malmo lit the blue touchpaper by revisiting the past meetings where they came out on top, saying: "When we met in 2011 you ended up in the fourth division. When we met in 2021 you ended up in the Europa League final. Welcome back to Malmo, Rangers. We've missed you."
Then before the game, confident Rydstrom claimed his side would "probably" beat Philippe Clement's side and insisted he was fully behind the club's online video. However, his words came back to haunt him as Rangers stormed to a 2-0 victory at the Eleda Stadion. And last night, the Swede returned to face the press with his tail between his legs as he let rip in a post-match meltdown.

Pressed on his pre-match comments, he said: "You can ask 'are you as a head coach stupid?' Yes. I'm obviously stupid."
Rydstrom also lamented Gabriel Busanello's mistake that led to Nedim Bajrami's early goal as he added: "This is a problem we've had for a damn long time. I have tried to get my players to understand that we do not play the ball backwards to our goalkeeper. Our goalkeepers are not our playmakers. Instead of taking the responsibility to play forward, we had lateral passes and passes towards home that I don't really understand."
