Man City ‘convinced’ they’ll beat Tottenham, Man Utd to surprise signing, as Fabrizio Romano gives second thumbs up
Man City are pushing a left-field transfer through at the expense of Man Utd, Tottenham and a third Premier League side, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Pep Guardiola’s side are once again on course to lift the Premier League title, though that may be just phase one of an incredible treble this season.
Man City square off against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League on May 9 and 17. Either Inter Milan or AC Milan will await in the final if Real are bested.
Manchester will descend on Wembley for the FA Cup final with City facing United. All in all, it’s been another outstanding campaign for the blue half of Manchester.
To keep the good times rolling, Guardiola is expected to chop and change in certain departments of his squad this summer.
Ilkay Gundogan is a free agent at season’s end and has interest from Barcelona, while centre-back Aymeric Laporte wants out and must be replaced if leaving.
However, a club like Man City must always have one eye on the future too. According to Fabrizio Romano, they’re doing just that in the form of sizing up England Under-16 international, Thorsten ‘Spike’ Brits.
The goalkeeper plays his club football for League Two side Wimbledon and is currently turning out for their Under-18s.
Brits had emerged on Man Utd and Tottenham’s radars back in February. More recently, Romano claimed Man City and Brentford had entered the frame.
City were labelled “favourites” for the move and Romano has provided a second update on the move that makes good reading for Guardiola and co.
The trusted journalist tweeted City are “convinced to get the deal done”. In other words, they’re pushing ahead with the move.
City reportedly expect to wrap up negotiations “in the next days”, with Brits earmarked to slot straight into City’s academy once signed.
Romano concluded by doubling down on the claim it is indeed Man City who are “leading the race”.
