Manchester City have been dealt a potential injury blow ahead of the resumption of the Premier League title race with Arsenal.

The Gunners are battling to leapfrog Man City in the top-flight standings after back-to-back second-place finishes over the last two seasons.

Mikel Arteta has been facing a nervous wait for several members of his squad to return to London Colney after the international break.

The players who represented their respective countries during the international break will soon be returning to training ahead of the weekend.

Man City and Pep Guardiola would have been in the same situation as Arteta and Arsenal. However, it seems that the Gunners' title rivals have been dealt an injury blow during the international break.

Nathan Ake appeared to suffer an injury during the Netherlands' clash against Germany in the Nations League on Tuesday night. The Dutch defender was stretchered off with what seemed to be a hamstring injury, and Man City now face a wait of their own to discover the extent of the injury.

Arsenal are also being forced to wait for the severity of two injuries sustained during the international break. Club captain Martin Odegaard suffered an ankle injury while starring for Norway on Monday night, with reports suggesting the midfielder could be sidelined for several weeks.

There is also a wait to discover the extent of the injury suffered by summer signing Riccardo Calafiori. The defender was substituted during Italy's win over France last Friday and was later withdrawn from the squad to return to London Colney for further assessment by the Arsenal medical staff.

Odegaard and Calafiori are not the only injuries that Arteta will be forced to deal with this weekend. Mikel Merino, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Jesus and Kieran Tierney are also on the sidelines with injuries and it's unclear when they will be fit to return.
