Manchester City could rival Arsenal and Liverpool for the signature of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer, according to reports.

The 19-year-old, who only left the Etihad last summer, has been one of the few positives for Saints fans this season.

But now, Southampton look set to lose one of their star men. Indeed, with the south coast club looking destined to be relegated, they could end up losing several of their best players.

Ruben Selles’ side currently sit bottom of the Premier League table, eight points adrift from safety, with just three matches remaining.

As a result, several of their players are being linked with departures. Club captain James Ward-Prowse, for instance, is expected to leave St. Mary’s – with a host of Premier League clubs queuing up to sign him.

However, Lavia now also looks set to leave. As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Chelsea are heavily interested in the youngster, while Manchester United and Liverpool have also registered an interest.

Man City tipped to re-sign Lavia a year early

But now, according to talkSPORTMan City could make a move to re-sign Lavia from Southampton this summer, just 11 months on from selling him.

Pep Guardiola is looking to bring in more than one midfielder this summer after missing out on Jude Bellingham. He has always been a fan of Lavia, so it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see the Cityzens come in for him.

Indeed, the Spanish manager has been full of praise for the youngster this season. Last month, Guardiola said: “I am really impressed with what Romeo has done and is doing.

“We had, and we have, an incredible opinion about him. We thought to keep him, but maybe he would not (get) enough minutes like he has in Southampton.”

Since making the switch from the Etihad, Lavia has made 23 appearances for Southampton. Indeed, he has been one of the few positives of their dismal season.

Generally operating in a defensive midfield role, he can break up opposition attacks effectively, is comfortable with the ball at his feet and has an excellent passing range.

Man City do have a £50million buy-back clause on Lavia but it can only be activated next summer. However, the Premier League champions could accelerate their plans and join the race to sign Lavia a year before that deal can be done.

With that in mind, it’s likely Southampton will demand more than £50m for Lavia this summer.

But, with three Premier League giants circling for Lavia, though, it looks likely he’ll be leaving the relegation-bound Saints.
