Man City Team News: Injuries, suspensions and line-up vs Southampton

Manchester City travel to Southampton on Saturday evening looking to consolidate their place in the Premier League top four.

RUMOURS: City want cash only for Hart

City returned to winning ways against Hull City last weekend having drawn three and lost one of their previous four matches.

Pep Guardiola's side are four points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand.

Southampton are ninth and are perhaps the most unpredictable side in the top flight.

MAN CITY INJURIES

Vincent Kompany is fit again but Pep Guardiola will have to decide if the centre-back is ready to return to the line-up, having missed the game against Hull after making his comeback against Chelsea.

Who Man City could sell this summer

Fernandinho did not feature last weekend but was left out for tactical reasons rather than due to any injury.

Bacary Sagna is still out with a muscle injury, while Gabriel Jesus is working towards a return but will not be ready this weekend. Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is out for the season.

MAN CITY SUSPENSIONS

City do not have any suspensions to worry about, though Oriol Romeu is banned for Southampton.

MAN CITY POTENTIAL STARTING LINE-UP

Guardiola will have to decide whether to stick with Claudio Bravo or put Willy Caballero back in. Bravo was handed a surprise recall last weekend but although he helped contribute to City's passing game and played a big role in their second goal, he did let in another soft goal late on, the type which convinced Guardiola to drop him earlier this year.

Why Alexis wants to leave Arsenal

In defence, Jesus Navas could get another go at right-back, with Gael Clichy most likely to start at left-back. John Stones has been in fine form recently and should keep his place, though who starts alongside him is unclear.

Fabian Delph has earned a place in the side in the last two games and could get another go in midfield, though Fernandinho could come back in despite some poor recent form. Kevin De Bruyne is likely to be recalled having been rested against Hull.

With the squad given two days off at the start of the week, the other first-choice midfielders and forwards should be fit enough to start as expected.

SOUTHAMPTON TEAM NEWS

Southampton have a number of injury doubts to contend with, in addition to Romeu's ban.

How Man City could line up with Alexis

Manolo Gabbiadini, who enjoyed such a fine start to life at the club by scoring six goals in his first five games, has been out for around three weeks with a groin injury. Steven Davis is struggling with an ankle injury, while Sofiane Boufal has a knock but could return this weekend.

Virgil van Dijk is out for the season, while Matthew Targett and Alex McCarthy have been out for several months with serious hamstring injuries.

Claude Puel's side are very difficult to predict. They have won 11, lost 12 and drawn seven of their Premier League games this season, with a goal difference of zero.
