City currently trail the Blues by six points, but face an Everton team that they have beaten in each of the last eight matches between the sides in all competitions.
Kevin De Bruyne tested positive for Covid-19 while on international duty, so will not available while he isolates, while Jack Grealish and Phil Foden both picked up knocks playing for England and late decisions will be made on their fitness.
City lost their last home match in the Premier League, to Crystal Palace, and will be looking to find their top form again ahead of hosting PSG in midweek.
Everton sit 11th in the table going into the match, but know victory at the Etihad would lift them up to seventh and just five points off the top four.

GOAL! Rodri with a stunner
GOAL! Sterling gets the opener
VAR overturns penalty decision!
15:53 , Matt Verri
It’s an absolute cruise for City, who beat Everton 3-0.
The visitors were passive throughout, even if they slightly improved in the second-half.
Sterling and Rodri with brilliant goals, before Silva rounded off the win late on.
15:49 , Matt Verri
88 mins: McAtee brought on for his debut, and he very nearly has a goal!
Silva plays it inside to him, and the youngster beats about four defenders, but doesn’t get the shot away.
GOAL! Man City 3-0 Everton | Bernardo Silva 86'
15:46 , Matt Verri
The visitors have been pushing a bit more, but it’s just left more space for City to attack.
Palmer has an effort blocked, and it rolls into the path of Bernardo Silva in the box, and it’s a simple enough finish.
15:41 , Matt Verri
81 mins: Everton having their best spell of the game, Townsend getting on the ball in midfield. A couple of balls get floated into the box, but Rondon can’t get on the end of them.
15:38 , Matt Verri
78 mins: Sterling has to score... NO!
What a mess. Walker is played in, he squares it into the box where Sterling is completely free. He tries to be clever as Pickford comes flying out though, and ends up stumbling over the ball and barely makes contact.
15:37 , Matt Verri
77 mins: Coleman gets into a dangerous position in the box, and tries to lob it over Ederson. The Brazilian is on hand to smother it though.
Allan then whips in a looping ball, but Ederson comes out to claim. Pretty much the only thing he has had to do today.
15:36 , Matt Verri
76 mins: Laporte, who is on a yellow card, is brought off for Ake. Guardiola doesn’t fancy the Frenchman getting another red, after he was sent off against Palace before the break.
15:34 , Matt Verri
73 mins: Palmer fancies a goal on his first league start, and you wouldn’t back against it with the game opening up.
He has an effort from 25 yards, but it’s well over the bar.
15:31 , Matt Verri
70 mins: Iwobi again with space on the right wing. His cross in is a decent one, but Richarlison’s attempted bicycle kick can only loop the ball away behind him.
15:28 , Matt Verri
68 mins: Game being played at walking pace when City have the ball, Everton not getting anywhere near them.
If the visitors can get one back then who knows, but that looks a long way off.
15:26 , Matt Verri
66 mins: Everton do get some players forward, and Iwobi on the overlap gets the ball in. Weak cross though, and easily cleared.
Townsend can’t quite bring it down in time on the edge of the box to get a shot away.
15:23 , Matt Verri
63 mins: Mahrez goes down, as Digne slides in... no penalty there. Frenchman just about got the ball.
Rondon on for Everton, Delph making way. The former City man gets a good ovation.
15:21 , Matt Verri
61 mins: Walker has so much space on the edge of the box. He feints to shoot, cuts into the space, and plays it into Palmer.
He scuffs his effort in the box, and Everton can clear. The visitors have barely touched the ball since the second goal.
15:18 , Matt Verri
57 mins: Foden off, Mahrez on. Guardiola now with an eye on the PSG game midweek, you’d imagine.
GOAL! Man City 2-0 Everton | Rodri 55'
15:15 , Matt Verri
It’s another stunner!
Foden’s ball in is cleared out, it rolls out to Rodri who is 30 yards out. He runs onto it and lets fly, and it is straight into the top corner!
You cannot hit a ball sweeter than that. City have their second.
15:13 , Matt Verri
52 mins: Everton trying to play out from the back more, and keep the ball.
Gordon gets caught on it though, and City win it back. Bernardo Silva goes down under a challenge from Keane... no penalty.
15:11 , Matt Verri
50 mins: Cancelo down after Iwobi accidentally stands on the back of his heel.
Allan then gives away a corner... went to clear with one foot, knocked it back with the other by mistake, and took a big kick at thin air.
15:07 , Matt Verri
47 mins: Headed out to Delph on the edge of the box, who has a swing but barely makes contact.
Still, much better from Everton. Challenge is maintaining it.
15:06 , Matt Verri
46 mins: Just as in the first half, it’s a bright start from Everton in the opening minute.
They push up the pitch, and Coleman wins a free-kick right by the corner flag.
15:05 , Matt Verri
We’re back underway at the Etihad!
Players back out
15:03 , Matt Verri
Here come the players for the second-half...
Surely Everton have to be a bit more adventurous now they’re behind?
Here’s the goal...
14:55 , Matt Verri
🗣 "Absolutely sublime!"
The assist by Joao Cancelo 😍
The finish by Raheem Sterling 🔥

Townsend takes... straight at Ederson.
And that will be half-time. City utterly dominant, and they got the goal they deserved thanks to Sterling, who was set up by a moment of brilliance from Cancelo.
14:48 , Matt Verri
45+3 mins: Well then. Everton have a free-kick right on the edge of the area. It will be the last action of the half.
Laporte brings down Townsend, and he goes into the box.
14:47 , Matt Verri
45+2 mins: Three minutes added on at the end of the half.
Everton nearly held on through to the break, but a moment of magic was just too good.
GOAL! Man City 1-0 Everton | Raheem Sterling 44'
14:45 , Matt Verri
WHAT A GOAL!
Joao Cancelo produces the most incredible ball with the outside of his right boot, curling through the Everton defence and right into the path of Raheem Sterling.
The Englishman produces a great finish on the half-volley... brilliant goal.
14:43 , Matt Verri
42 mins: Another corner, but Everton are defending balls into their box well.
They break for the first time in about half an hour with Iwobi, and he briefly gets the better of Walker. But the right-back is so quick, and he wins the ball to bring an end to the attack.
14:39 , Matt Verri
39 mins: Foden and Palmer combining well on the left, but Coleman gets a foot in to clear it.
City back on the attack, and they’ll have a fourth corner of the match.
Foden is very good at a lot of things... but he’s just taken a corner that went out almost immediately.
14:37 , Matt Verri
He takes a look at the replays, and his decision is overturned!
It won’t be a free-kick or a penalty, with the officials deciding there was no foul. Guardiola not impressed.
14:36 , Matt Verri
Referee going over to have a look. Not a huge amount of contact, and it’s not definitely in the box anyway.
14:35 , Matt Verri
VAR checking whether the foul is inside the box or not...
PENALTY MAN CITY!
14:34 , Matt Verri
33 mins: Everton again give it away in a dangerous position. Sterling picks it up, drives into the box, and goes down under a challenge from Keane.
The referee takes his time, but eventually points to the spot.
14:31 , Matt Verri
31 mins: Frustrated tackle from Richarlison, and he’s into the book after chopping down Walker.
He’ll miss Everton’s next match through suspension.
14:30 , Matt Verri
30 mins: Palmer has an effort from the edge of the box well saved. Pickford wisely decides not to dive in as Sterling picks up the rebound, and gets back on his line to save the shot.
14:29 , Matt Verri
28 mins: The visitors are really hanging on now.
Palmer slides a great ball through to Silva, who tries to dink Pickford but the goalkeeper smothers. The rebound falls to Gundogan, who heads it over Pickford but it just flicks off the top of the bar.
14:28 , Matt Verri
27 mins: Everton becoming increasingly desperate in their attempts to clear.
Foden whips a lovely cross, Sterling is there behind Keane, but he can’t get over it and the header is over the bar.
14:26 , Matt Verri
25 mins: Gundogan has an effort blocked by Allan. Iwobi tries to dribble his way out of trouble, but loses it and City come again.
Cancelo fires a ball into the box, and it’s deflected behind for another corner.
14:24 , Matt Verri
23 mins: Corner comes to nothing, but City are sustaining their attacks. Silva gets to the byline and cuts it back, but Godfrey gets there just in front of Palmer.
14:22 , Matt Verri
21 mins: Almost halfway through the opening period, and City have had 75% possession. But it’s two shots for each team, and neither have managed to create a really good chance yet.
Sterling wins a corner for City, more good work on the wing.
14:19 , Matt Verri
18 mins: Sterling again gets past Digne on the outside, but Keane cuts out the cross into the box.
Gordon robs Foden, but once again Rodri is there to stop any hopes of a counter. Pickford makes a mess of a cross into the box, and drops the ball at his feet, but his teammates are there to clear.
14:17 , Matt Verri
16 mins: Gray is indeed off, big blow for Everton who already have a long injury list.
Alex Iwobi is on as the substitute.
14:15 , Matt Verri
14 mins: Everton dropping really deep, and struggling to get out.
They do so now though, even with Rodri pulling Townsend back slightly. Gray has a shot blocked... and he’s now gone down. Looks like his afternoon could well be over.
14:12 , Matt Verri
11 mins: Sterling with a bright burst on the right, and he’s too quick for Digne. The winger stands a ball up to the far post, where Foden can’t quite get up enough to get over the header, and it loops wide.
14:10 , Matt Verri
9 mins: Richarlison holds the ball up well, and Everton can have a bit of sustained possession for the first time. They’ll be relatively happy with the early stages here.
14:07 , Matt Verri
6 mins: Cancelo lets fly from the edge of the box, and it very nearly deflects into the path of Palmer. He tries to control it but it bounces away and behind for a goal-kick. Probably should have just tried to divert it first time.
14:04 , Matt Verri
4 mins: Game settles into more of the expected pattern - Everton sitting back in their shape, and City enjoying plenty of possession at the back.
Townsend playing centrally for the visitors, just behind Richarlison up front.
14:03 , Matt Verri
2 mins: Good ball in from Foden, Delph flicks it behind for a corne.... goal-kick. Referee doesn’t see the touch the Everton man got on it.
14:02 , Matt Verri
1 mins: Well it’s a very entertaining start! Gray breaks away down the right wing, and it ends with Gordon having a shot blocked. Everton pressing really high.
But that leaves the space for City to counter, and they do so. Sterling cuts inside, and Digne brings him down. Dangerous free-kick coming up.
14:00 , Matt Verri
We’re underway! Let’s hope for plenty of goals...
Here we go...
13:58 , Matt Verri
Players are out onto the pitch. Everton the first visitors to the Etihad this week, with PSG and then West Ham to come.
Kick-off nearly here...
13:56 , Matt Verri
About five minutes to go until the action begins at the Etihad.
The home fans will be hoping for a much improved display to the one they saw in City’s last home match in the league, the defeat to Crystal Palace.
Guardiola on Palmer
13:51 , Matt Verri
“He has to be himself, and help us with his quality up front, in the small spaces, and with his finishing.
“And desire - young players always give you something special. He wants to take the world, and [he] plays every minute for that.”
Last time Everton were in town...
13:44 , Matt Verri
These two sides met on the final day of last season, and City thumped the visitors 5-0 at the Etihad on the day they lifted the Premier League trophy.
De Bruyne, Jesus, and Foden were all on the scoresheet, while Aguero netted a brace on his final appearance for the club.

300 the magic number today...
13:27 , Matt Verri
300 - Raheem Sterling today makes his 300th @premierleague appearance; aged 26 years and 348 days, he's the fourth-youngest player to hit that total in the division, and youngest since James Milner in April 2012 (26y 117d), also for Man City. Landmark. pic.twitter.com/FguOrsyRuV

Everton have now gone five matches without victory in the Premier League, and face an uphill task if they are to put an end to that run. They have not won away at Man City since 2010.
Even without De Bruyne, and potentially Grealish, this is a City team with incredible strength in depth, and they should have too much for Rafa Benitez’s side this afternoon.

Man City team news

Kevin De Bruyne is in isolation after testing positive for Covid-19 while away on international duty, while Grealish is doubtful with the injury that forced him to withdraw from the England squad.
Guardiola is pessimistic over the former Aston Villa captain’s chances of being available this afternoon, while Phil Foden is also fighting to be fit after returning from Three Lions action with a knock to his leg.
