Man hospitalised with head injury after being assaulted near shop

A man has been hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries when he was assaulted in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, June 4).

The 32-year-old man was close to The Works on Redcar High Street when he was attacked and suffered serious head injuries at around 2 am.

The suspect, thought to be of a slim build, with short dark hair, wearing dark bottoms, a light-coloured jacket and dark trainers with light soles, had yet to be apprehended by police.

The force has now issued an appeal for any witnesses to come forward to help them with their enquiries, as well as any mobile phone/dashcam or CCTV footage.

A spokesperson for Redcar CID said: "The 32-year-old man was near The Works on Redcar High Street at approximately 2 am when he was attacked.

"He suffered a serious head injury and was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he remains as an inpatient.

"The suspect is described as male, of slim build with short dark hair and wearing dark bottoms, a light-coloured jacket and dark trainers with a light sole.
