Ruben Amorim has refused suggestions that it would be embarrassing for Manchester United if Marcus Rashford rediscovered his form at Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old's loan move to Villa is set to be confirmed imminently after undergoing a medical earlier today. Rashford could join Villa on a permanent basis in the summer as they hold a £40m option to buy the forward from United after his loan spell.

His last league start for United came at the start of December against Everton, where he scored a brace in a 4-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford. Amorim hasn't included Rashford in eight of United's last nine matchday squads for league matches, with the only exception being when he was an unused substitute in the defeat to Newcastle United.

Since Rashford's last league appearance against Nottingham Forest, United have only scored more than once in a game on two occasions against Liverpool and Southampton. Their latest disappointing result came against Crystal Palace this afternoon as the Eagles won 2-0 at Old Trafford.

After the game, Amorim was asked if it would be embarrassing for United if Rashford found form at Villa and he replied: "It’s not embarrassing. When you loan a player you expect them to play and improve so there would be nothing humiliating there.

"I understand the question and I am just focused on my players and that’s all. When the window closes, I will really focus on just our team and improving it."

He added: "We have to improve as a team to score goals and we are trying our best to improve the team. This market is really hard on the clubs. Then you have urgency. We are trying everything guys, we want so bad to improve the team. I know what it needs. We are trying everything."
