Man Utd in ‘advanced discussions’ for Bundesliga sensation as Ten Hag plans to axe lacklustre player
Manchester United are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has been on the Red Devil’s radar for some time, with Erik ten Hag keen to bolster the full-back position this summer.
Frimpong is also a target for Real Madrid. However, it seems he would prefer to make a switch to the Premier League.
Ten Hag has overseen a season of progress at Old Trafford, with Man Utd close to qualifying for the Champions League next term.
He also guided his team to their first major trophy since 2017, after they lifted the League Cup in February.
However, the Dutch manager is already looking at bolstering his squad ahead of next season. Indeed, right-back is thought to be one of the key areas he wants to improve.
Aaron Wan Bissaka has worked his way back into Ten Hag’s starting XI recently. But, he is still being heavily linked with a move away from Man Utd.
As a result, the Red Devils have been linked with several right-backs recently. However, it now seems they have settled upon Frimpong as their primary target.

Man Utd edging closer to Frimpong deal
This is according to German outlet SportBILD, who state Man Utd are now ‘likely’ to strike a deal with Leverkusen for Frimpong this summer.
They add that Real Madrid have also registered an interest in the defender, but he has already decided that he would prefer to join Man Utd.
It’s no real surprise to see two huge clubs vying for Frimpong’s signature given his form in the Bundesliga this season.
Overall, he has made 30 league appearances for Leverkusen, scoring eight goals and making six assists in the process.
Statistically, this makes him one of he most effective attacking full-backs in Europe. Also, given he is still a youngster, he is expected to get even better as he gains more experience.
Wan Bissaka, on the other hand, has failed to make a single goal contribution in the Premier League this season, so it’s clear to see why Ten Hag is keen to bring Frimpong in.
Ten Hag certainly has one eye on the future. For now, though, the Dutch manager’s focus will be on ensuring Man Utd qualify for the Champions League.
