Manchester United have quickly turned their attention to one of the more successful summer recruits at rival Premier League side Leeds United, a report has claimed.

It was a busy summer of signings for both Manchester United and Leeds. As the Erik ten Hag era began, the Red Devils strengthened in defence, midfield and out wide with Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony.

Over at Elland Road, Leeds brought in several new faces for head coach Jesse Marsch, many of whom had worked with him before at previous clubs.

In that regard, Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen came in from RB Salzburg, before Tyler Adams joined from RB Leipzig.

It has been a mixed start to the season for Leeds and the same goes for their summer signings. But one of their better performers so far has been Adams, who along with fellow new recruit Marc Roca has helped fill the void left by Kalvin Phillips.

And according to Football Insider, Adams’ performances have not gone unnoticed by Manchester United.

The report claims Manchester United are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old. Indeed, they were aware of him during his RB Leipzig days.

Encouraged by what they have seen since from his early days in West Yorkshire, they might begin to firm up their own plans to lure him across the Pennines.

Man Utd might need one more midfielder

Even after the arrival of Casemiro, midfield might be an area for Manchester United to reinforce further. Fred and Scott McTominay are still the main options to partner the former Real Madrid enforcer.

But the question marks about both players have not been erased entirely yet. What’s more, Donny van de Beek could be on his way out next year.

Therefore, there may still be a vacancy to fill at the base of Ten Hag’s midfield. Perhaps Adams could be someone to fill it.

Leeds spent a fee of around £15million to sign Adams back in July. In the process, they tied him down to a contract that is due to last until 2027.

But they could already be bracing themselves for interest in the USMNT player’s services.

The threat of losing him to Manchester United, one of their most heated rivals, would be particularly alarming if the interest becomes more concrete. Eric Cantona and Rio Ferdinand treaded that path in the past to enjoy successful careers in the red shirt instead.

No player has moved from Leeds to Manchester United since Alan Smith in 2004. That said, there has been some movement in the opposite direction; Daniel James joined the Whites in 2021, although he has already moved on again.

Leeds fans would be hoping that they can resist any pressure from Manchester United to let go of Adams. It is too early for them to have even thought of an asking price.

Tyler Adams best off at Leeds – for now

For now, they must focus on improving their own form on the pitch. The better results they can get, the less precarious a position they should be in – both in terms of the Premier League table and their chances of keeping their better players.

Their relegation battle last season was followed by the exits of Phillips and Raphinha, even though they eventually had averted danger. Hence, they will not be too eager for any more close calls, so they can continue to build a stronger squad.

Adams has started 10 out of 11 Premier League matches for Leeds so far this season and has completed 90 minutes every time he has played.

Perhaps it would be best for him to stay put for the time being, so he can continue to cement his reputation. While still acclimatising to the Premier League, Leeds and Marsch can help him more.

Still at a young age, there is plenty of time on Adams’ side to make the step back up to a club competing in a UEFA tournament.

He seems to have the potential to make such a leap in the future, though.

Hence, he will be a player to keep an eye on for Manchester United and, who knows, maybe some other top clubs too.
