New Man Utd signing Tyrell Malacia has been tipped to shine at Old Trafford by former Feyenoord assistant manager Said Bakkati.

The Netherlands international swapped Feyenoord for the Red Devils on Tuesday in a deal worth a reported £12.9m.

With a number of reported Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd targets having links to the Eredivisie, there have been doubts over whether they will transfer their success to the Premier League.

Man Utd fans must accept their share of responsibility for the mess at Old Trafford…

But Bakkati thinks Malacia will “fit in” at Man Utd with the left-back and Ten Hag sharing “the same football philosophy”.

“A good, talented player. He has a good character and always gave one hundred percent in training. A real biter,” Bakkati told FR12.nl.

“He could still make progress on the ball, but in the end, he did. He plays more balls forward now, instead of wide or back. He has made great development.

“The most important step he made then is that he became more mature. He performed more consistently; no longer a rated as 9/10 one game and 4/10 the next. That’s an important factor, especially for a defender.

“If a club like that approaches you, you take that step. Then you do not say no. He is lucky that there is a Dutch coach there who uses the same football philosophy.

“I think the second Klassieker of last season convinced Erik ten Hag. Someone who can make things so difficult for Antony and who can keep a close eye on him throughout the match, that’s a player who fits in with Manchester United.”

On signing for Man Utd earlier this week, Malacia said: “It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United. This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager [Erik ten Hag] leading us.

“I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.

“Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt. I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family.

“None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for them. Now I’m ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success.”
