Man Utd are convinced that Harry Kane can fit seamlessly into the style of play that Erik ten Hag is trying to implement at Old Trafford, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Finding a new striker is a priority issue for Man Utd to resolve in the upcoming transfer window. Wout Weghorst has been on loan from Burnley in the second half of the season, but is unlikely to be kept on.

Ten Hag has refused to confirm Weghorst will be on his way out, but the amount of transfer links about Man Utd signing a different striker seems to send an obvious message.

Reports have been naming Kane as Man Utd’s top target for the summer as he enters the final year of his contract with Tottenham.

Kane has supposedly made it clear that Man Utd are the only club he wants to join if he does decide to leave Spurs. However, convincing Daniel Levy to sell to a Premier League rival will surely be the biggest obstacle.

If Levy doesn’t want to do business, Kane might have to run his deal down. But Man Utd’s need for a new centre-forward is more urgent.

According to transfer expert Romano, Kane has been identified as the ‘perfect striker’ for Ten Hag. In turn, the prospect of signing him from Tottenham – and his England colleague, midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea – will remain on the agenda.

Man Utd appreciative of Harry Kane and Mason Mount

Speaking of Mount and Kane, Romano told Give Me Sport: “I would say that they are two players that they really appreciate at Manchester United.

“For sure, Harry Kane is considered the perfect striker for their idea of football who Erik ten Hag wants, and so they consider him as the perfect player for their idea.”

Man Utd have reportedly opened talks with Chelsea about a transfer for Mount, who like Kane is entering the final year of his contract with the club whose academy he came through.

Unlike Chelsea or Tottenham, Man Utd can offer Champions League football next season after finishing third in the 2022-23 Premier League table.

After the season Kane has had – with 32 goals from 49 games, not to mention that he became Spurs’ all-time record scorer along the way – he may feel like he deserves to be playing at that level.

It isn’t hard to see why Man Utd have identified him as an ideal target. But being realistic, it will be hard for them to tempt Tottenham into a sale this summer.

There seems to be more confidence that they can capture Mount to bolster their midfield ranks. Perhaps the Kane saga will be the more drawn-out one this summer.
