Manchester United is interested in signing Manuel Ugarte.

After joining French champion Paris Saint-Germain just last summer, the Uruguayan midfielder seems to be available again. It's been reported by the Manchester Evening News that Liverpool's rival United has tabled a £38 million ($49 million) offer plus add ons.

Ugarte has 20 senior caps for Uruguay and helped PSG win the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup, and the French Super Cup last season. He has previously played for Sporting Lisbon.

At the age of 23, Ugarte's style of play is reminiscent of Casemiro's, acting as a defensive anchor. While he may not be the most skilled with the ball, he excels in covering ground in front of defence, either committing fouls to disrupt play or winning the ball outright.

Casemiro fulfilled this role at Real Madrid, leaving the possession play to his more technically gifted teammates. If United sign Ugarte, talented midfielder Mason Mount - who struggled during his debut season at Old Trafford - would have the freedom to play in a more advanced role without having to worry as much about his defensive duties.

If Bruno Fernandes is to stay at United then this would also alleviate some of the pressure on him from playing superhero-ball every time.

Liverpool.com says: United needs a defensive midfielder, with Casemiro no longer as mobile as he once was and Scott McTominay not a natural in that position. Ugarte would be an exciting transfer for Liverpool's big rival - and he could be the answer to United's problems - but he's also unproven in the Premier League. It'll be interesting to see how this transfer plays out.
