Manchester United have reportedly made contact with the agent of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, after they decided against pursuing Adrien Rabiot.

United have long been linked with a transfer for Milinkovic-Savic. Indeed, not a transfer window goes by of late without the two names being mentioned together.

However, he has not been United’s main midfield target this summer, despite reported interest. Frenkie de Jong has been one of the top targets, per multiple reports.

However, it seems at the moment that a deal for him will not go through.

Interest in Rabiot has also been well reported, but it seems that is also a saga that has run its course.

United still seem keen on landing a midfielder this summer. Paul Pogba’s departure has left a gap for a top-quality box-to-box midfielder.

As such, their interest in Milinkovic-Savic seems to have returned.

Footmercato reports that United have made contact with the Lazio star’s agent, to see how they would manage to prise him away from the club.

Previous reports have stated that the Serbian would be keen on joining United.

As such, it seems to be a transfer that could have legs, if the two clubs can come to a suitable arrangement. The transfer would be a big one for United, given they have been tracking the star for some time.

Milinkovic-Savic seems top midfield signing

Should United manage to pull off the signing of Milinkovic-Savic, it seems a great piece of business. Indeed, the midfielder scored 11 Serie A goals and assisted a further 11 last season.

As such, he seems to be a player who United could rely on to provide goals. That would be essential at the moment, given they have scored just once in their two games so far this season, and it was an own goal.

Furthermore, the Lazio star seems a better option than Casemiro and Moises Caicedo, who have been linked with the Red Devils of late, given his eye for goal, and his form over the past few seasons.

As such, United will be in a better place if they manage to complete the signing of Milinkovic-Savic.
