Man Utd five-man striker shortlist revealed as Ten Hag says ‘get me a striker’; Watkins to Bayern?
Erik ten Hag has told Man Utd to ‘get me a striker’ as the club compiles a five-man shortlist, while Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins has been linked to Bayern Munich…
TEN HAG MAKES HIS DEMAND
Erik ten Hag is desperate to bring in a new striker in the summer transfer window with the club drawing up a five-man shortlist, according to reports.
The Red Devils still haven’t permanently replaced Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal international left the club at the end of November following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan.
Man Utd brought in Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in the January transfer window but the Netherlands international is unlikely to form part of Ten Hag’s long-term plans.
And The Sun claims that the Man Utd manager has told the club’s hierarchy to ‘get me a striker’ with Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane his number one target.
Man Utd ‘want to pair Kane and Marcus Rashford together next season’ and the Red Devils have drawn up a ‘five-man shortlist’ of other strikers they could sign,
‘As well as Kane, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Lille’s Jonathan David, Atalanta sensation Rasmus Hojland, former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham and Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic are all believed to be on United’s radar.’
Speaking after their 2-2 draw with Tottenham, on signing a new striker in the summer, Ten Hag said: “Everyone knows and it is not a secret that long-term and over a whole season we had a shortage of No9s.
“We had the drop out of [Cristiano] Ronaldo, then Anthony Martial was often not available, Jadon Sancho often not available, then you have a shortage of front line players.
“We have players who can play the role but definitely we need some offensive players who are impact and quality players.”
WATKINS TO THE BUNDESLIGA?
German giants Bayern Munich are interested in signing Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins in the summer transfer market, according to reports.
Watkins has been in red-hot form recently with the England international contributing 14 goals and six assists in 32 matches in the Premier League for Villa.
And that has not gone unnoticed in Germany with the Daily Mirror claiming Watkins has been ‘watched’ by Bayern Munich ‘as part of their search for a new striker this summer’.
The Daily Mirror adds: ‘New Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel has already identified the need for a new striker with Tottenham ’s England captain Kane also on the German giants’ radar.’
Villa are ready to ‘brace themselves for offers from some of Europe’s biggest clubs’ for Watkins with the 27-year-old having two years remaining on his contract after this season.
