Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has told the club to make a shock inquiry into signing Trent Alexander-Arnold due to his uncertain situation at Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold is heading into the last year of his contract with Liverpool, with the club peculiarly letting him get into the final year of his deal. The England international will be free agent in 2025 and can talk to foreign clubs as early as January.

Liverpool know they they must act this summer, needing to die down Trent Alexander-Arnold to a new contract with Real Madrid reportedly extremely interested in looking to acquire him. However, Yorke believes that Manchester United should make an attempt to move for him.

Speaking to Best Online Poker Sites : "I’m not sure Trent Alexander-Arnold would want to leave Liverpool as it’s his boyhood club, but Liverpool will be under transition now Jurgen Klopp has left. Maybe Alexander-Arnold can evolve as a midfielder under Slot. This could be another opportunity where, if Liverpool don’t perform under Slot and Alexander-Arnold becomes unhappy, Man United should do everything they can to sign him.

"I was the first person to suggest that Man United should have signed Leroy Sane when he started to become frustrated at Man City when he was on the bench frequently. Now, he’s one of the best players in Germany. Alexander-Arnold may have a similar opportunity which Man United should pounce on.

"Obviously, there is history between the clubs and Alexander-Arnold will know that as an Englishman, but it can be an opportunity to look out for."

No player has transferred directly between Liverpool and Manchester United since 1964, when striker Phil Chisnall moved to Anfield from Old Trafford.

Arne Slot, Richard Hughes and the Reds backroom staff are likely to be prioritizing an extension for Alexander-Arnold, who is set to be the club's long-term captain after Virgil van Dijk, with the center-back turning 33 this season.

Alexander-Arnold had an impressive 2023/24 season, with some suggesting that he could be moved into midfielder in Slot's 4-2-3-1 system. While the remains to be seen, he has not had the impact playing in the role with England at the European Championship beginning the question if his optimal position is indeed at right wing-back.

Liverpool.com says: You probably don't need us to tell you this, but Trent Alexander-Arnold is not going to leave Liverpool for Manchester United. Dwight Yorke is in absolute dreamland with this one. There's more chance of Gary and Phil Neville rocking up at full-back for United next season!

In 2021, Alexander-Arnold was asked if he would rather sign for Manchester United or retire - answering that he'd retire before adding that 'I could not do that'. Unless Alexander-Arnold wants to commit the biggest heel turn in sport's history and leave his hometown club for it's biggest rival - it's fair to say that Yorke isn't going to get his wish here.
