Man Utd, Liverpool show ‘great interest’ in 17-year-old PSG ‘revelation’ as Jorge Mendes takes control
Manchester United and Liverpool have both shown ‘great interest’ in Paris Saint-Germain teenager El Chadaille Bitshiabu ‘in recent days’, according to reports in France.
Bitshiabu has forced his way into the PSG reckoning this term and is described by Le10 Sport as ‘one of the revelations of the 2022-23 seasons’.
The 6ft 5in centre-back has started four Ligue 1 games this season and the report claims the French giants ‘obviously want to preserve and extend’ his contract, which expires in the summer of 2024.
But a change of representation has put the cat among the pigeons, with renowned super-agent Jorge Mendes now in charge of negotiating the 17-year-old’s future deals.
And with Milan Skriniar set to arrive this summer from Inter Milan, joining Marquinhos, Presnel Kimpembe and Sergio Ramos already at the Parc des Princes, Bitshiabu’s best chance of significant game time may lie away from the French capital.
Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund were thought to be leading the race for his signature, but Le10 Sport now claim ‘two European monsters’, namely Liverpool and United, are ‘at the door’.
The report claims the Premier League pair have ‘already shown great interest in recent days’.
But it’s further stated that it’s ‘still too early to talk about concrete leads in the mind of the player and his new representative’, who ‘must first discuss with PSG to listen to the project and the future prospects in Paris’.
Liverpool are set for a big rebuild this summer after a disappointing season which looks likely to see them miss out on Champions League football.
They’re linked with a host of midfielders but are also on the lookout for defensive reinforcements with Virgil van Dijk a shadow of his former self, Joel Matip about to enter the final year of his contract, and Joe Gomez less than convincing when he’s appeared this season.
Manchester United meanwhile are looking for buyers for Harry Maguire, and possibly Victor Lindelof, with Erik ten Hag wanting backup options for his first choice centre-back pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
