Man Utd have made a bid for Ajax winger Antony with the Eredvisie side expected to ask for more, according to reports.

The winger has been in great form this season for the Dutch club, contributing 12 goals and eight assists in 33 appearances as Ajax won the Eredivisie.

Antony joined Ajax in 2020 from Brazilian side Sao Paulo in a deal that could reach £18.2m and he’s scored 22 goals in 79 matches over his two-year spell in the Netherlands.

Liverpool and Newcastle have been linked with a move for Antony but it is Man Utd who have been mentioned more because of Erik ten Hag’s links to Ajax.

And, according to Brazilian blogger Jorge Nicola (via The Metro), the Red Devils have now lodged their first offer for Antony worth €45m.

It is understood that Antony is seen as Ten Hag’s first-choice target as he attempts to bolster his frontline with Ajax yet to give their response to their opening offer.

However, the report adds that the Dutch giants are expected to demand more money from Man Utd with the Brazil international a crucial part of their starting XI.

Another report earlier this week indicated that Antony’s representatives had travelled to Europe ‘to accelerate, and perhaps close, the possible deal between the player and the Manchester club’.

Reacting to Ten Hag’s departure to Man Utd last month, Antony said in a video message: “I want to wish you all the best at your new club. I also want to thank you for everything you taught me. I am thankful all the opportunities and learning every day.

“Know that I will always stand with you if you need me.”

Meanwhile, former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell insists Ten Hag will know “Antony can make the step up” ahead of a potential transfer.

“You have to take that step up from the Eredivisie to the Premier League into consideration,” Campbell told Football Insider.

“But Ten Hag likes the tried and tested route, he’ll want to work with players who know his system. As far as I’m concerned, Antony has played really well recently at Ajax. He’s a really good player.

“I don’t think Ten Hag will be daunted at all by that step up – he knows Antony can make the step up. It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens with him, but he’s a top player.”
