Bundesliga midfielder ‘wants to leave’ for Man Utd as Red Devils ‘push for late transfer’
Man Utd and Chelsea have both made enquiries on deadline day for the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, according to reports.
The Red Devils are now looking to sign a midfielder before the transfer deadline after they received the bad news that Christian Eriksen could be out until May after picking up an injury in their 3-1 victory over Reading in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Erik ten Hag was coy over the possibility that Man Utd could sign a midfielder before the end of the day with the Dutchman bigging up players already at the club as possible replacements.
However, a report in the Daily Telegraph has already insisted that the Red Devils have contacted at least four of Europe’s elite clubs in an effort to find a capable midfielder before the deadline.
Eriksen and fellow summer signing Casemiro have transformed the midfield at Old Trafford and the news has come as a major blow for their chances of success this season.
And now Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claims that Man Utd and Chelsea have ‘both inquired about Sabitzer today’ and the clubs will ‘push for a transfer now’.
Bayern Munich are ‘in talks with the clubs’ with the Austria international only making seven starts in the Bundesliga this season under Julian Nagelsmann.
And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano gave an update on Sabitzer too with the journalist claiming that Chelsea have moved on from the player.
Romano wrote on Twitter: “Manchester United have approached Bayern for Marcel Sabitzer. Chelsea are focused on different players now. #MUFC Man United discussing potential terms with Bayern for Sabitzer after news on Christian Eriksen injury. Talks ongoing, as per @Plettigoal. #DeadlineDay.”
Romano later updated: “Marcel Sabitzer wants to leave and Manchester United are now pushing in talks with Bayern. Discussions on the formula of the deal, ongoing. #MUFC #DeadlineDay Chelsea are currently busy with other deals and not with Sabitzer as things stand.”
Ten Hag hinted in his Tuesday press conference that Man Utd wouldn’t move away from their “stategy” despite a potential need to bring in a replacement for Eriksen.
“I can’t talk for other clubs, I’m talking for our club,” Ten Hag told reporters. “We have a strategy, so we keep the strategy where we want to go. We want to restore Manchester United to where they belong.
“We are in a good direction and it also has to match our financial frames. We started the season, we keep consistent to that plan, to that strategy and we are developing as a club, we are developing as a squad in the way of play.
“You see also the results in the process, we make the right progress, we have to keep the process going and keep improving every day.”
