Man Utd and Newcastle both ‘offered’ Paulo Dybala for stunningly low fee, as likeliest next club is named
Paulo Dybala has been ‘offered’ to a host of Premier League clubs including Man Utd and Newcastle, and one of that pair are getting ‘serious’ over pulling off the bargain coup, per reports.
The 29-year-old has been on a mission since leaving Juventus for Roma last summer. Dybala has bagged 16 goals and eight assists for Jose Mourinho’s club either side of lifting the World Cup with Argentina.
Understandably, Roma are desperate to retain their newest star attacker for the long haul. However, if a premier League club comes calling, the decision is out of their hands.
That’s because of a release clause in Dybala’s contract that can see Dybala move on for stunningly low fees at season’s end.
Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed non-Italian sides can sign Dybala for a mind-bogglingly low €12m (approx. £10.5m) this summer.
Alternatively, Italian sides can activate the release clause for €20m (approx. £17.5m), though Roma can ‘cancel’ the move by triggering a salary rise from €3.8m per year to €6m.
Now, a fresh update from 90min has claimed Dybala’s camp have offered his services to several Premier League sides in what would unquestionably be a lucrative late-career switch.
The outlet state Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Man Utd, Newcastle and Tottenham have all been contacted by the player’s representatives.
However, of that six-strong list, a move to only two of them seems possible – Man Utd and Newcastle. And of that pair, it’s a switch to Eddie Howe’s Magpies that looks likeliest to occur.
Man Utd have drawn consistent links with Dybala since the World Cup break. Indeed, reports out of Italy have persistently talked up Man Utd’s interest in the player who can operate as a false nine, second striker or on the right flank.
However, the latest from CalcioMercatoWeb notes it’s Newcastle who are ‘determined’ to strike.
Barring a late-season collapse, Newcastle will grace the Champions League for the first time since 2003 next year.
Adding a player of Dybala’s calibre who also boasts vast European experience could be pivotal for Newcastle. Very few among their current ranks have played in Europe, never mind in the Champions League.
CMW reported Newcastle are expected to ‘get serious’ for Dybala and claimed the Argentine is open to testing his mettle in the Premier League.
90min offer a different view in that regard, claiming there are ‘long-standing concerns’ Dybala isn’t actually interested in moving to England.
His true feelings on the subject will become clear in the event any side triggers his release clause this summer. Of the sides he’s been offered to thus far, it’s Newcastle who seem the most determined to ask the question.
