Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to commit his future to Manchester United for next season as he backed Erik ten Hag to bring success back to the club.

Ronaldo has been a rare bright spot for the Red Devils this season in a miserable campaign that has failed to yield Champions League football for next season. There have been rumours that Ronaldo may seek to move elsewhere this summer in search of winning trophies again, although he has hinted he still very much sees his future at Old Trafford. "We are happy and excited, not only as players, but the supporters as well," Ronaldo told the official Manchester United website about incoming boss ten Hag. "I wish him the best and let's believe that, next year, we are going to win trophies." Another sticking point will be whether or not ten Hag himself wants to keep Ronaldo around, with many analysts expecting the Dutchman to build a much younger side. That would amount to a major rebuild job and it may not have room for 37 year old Ronaldo.

He, though, says he is fully behind the new manager and will back whatever changes he wants to make. "What I know about him is he did a fantastic job for Ajax, that he's an experienced coach," Ronaldo said. "But we need to give him time. Things need to change in the way he wants. "I hope we have success, of course, because, if you have success, all of Manchester is going to have success as well. I wish him the best." Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League but will go into the final day in seventh position if West Ham can beat leaders Manchester City on Sunday.
